CLEARWATER - A manager at a carwash recognized the man caught on a surveillance videotape breaking into the business: The man had applied for a job there, police said.
Jimmy Leeroy Walker, 48, of Dunedin, was arrested Jan. 3 on two counts of commercial burglary and theft, said Elizabeth Daly-Watts, Clearwater's public safety spokeswoman.
He is accused of breaking into Sunshine Car Wash at 1175 Court St., Clearwater, on two occasions, Daly-Watts said.
One was on Christmas Day when, police say, he smashed a side window to get in, then took money from a cash register. Walker was wearing socks on his hands, Daly-Watts said.
The second occasion was on Dec. 31, when he took a tip box containing $9, she said.
A surveillance video captured both incidents, and when shown the tape, the manager recognized Walker as someone who recently had dropped off a job application, Daly-Watts said.
Walker is being held at Pinellas County Jail, with no bail set.
