the epitomy of FPS

Sure, ID games were great (Quake, so on) but they lacked down-to-earth creativity because of their typical fight-aliens-in-distant-planet atmosphere.

Now Duke3D, Shadow Warrior, Redneck Rampage & Blood were the games that had me excited...

Remember the impressive level designs of Duke3D? It had unprecedented interactivity for its time and best of all, the maps were fun as hell because they took place in major US cities.

Remember the Red Light District level with strippers and arcades?
Don't you miss going into a Japanese restaurant and sing 'Born to be Wild' in the karaoke while blasting aliens?
How about the gloomy subway level, complete with in-ground plaza shops and subway stops?

How about the weapons..... Instead of ID's dull overused weapons like shotgun and rocket launcher, Duke had...
Pipe bombs that you could literally set as many as you'd like...
Trip mines!
The Shrinker
Freezer
And the pwnage duke's left kick!

Ahh.. the memories..

Good games.. I always hoped they would do a Witchhaven type with a new engine like Unreal 2 or something. An updated Blood on the Monolith version they made NOLF 2 with would be cool too.

I remember when sierra used to make remakes of their classics, wish a few companies would do that again.

It was even more fun to make my own maps for Duke3D :D

Hey, I have an idea! How about a Duke3D sequel built on the Quake 2 engine, er, I mean the Unreal engine, uh, make that the Unreal Tournament 2003 engine! We could call it Duke Nukem Forever!

so were most of the games running on the same graphics engine? A lot of them looked like they had the same graphics as duke3d or doom2.

It might take a good 10 years of development, but I think you are on to something!

I remember the first four. I was stoked for SW, but it was a disappointment compared to duke.

You mean Wolf3D's technological sequel? The game was way too dull IMO

LAUST - there was a sequel to Blood, unfortunately it sucked. Blood 1 rocked ass

Yeah, D3D, SW, and Blood were all built using the Build engine, which I think was developed for D3D. I'm not 100% sure about Redneck Rampage (I never owned it), but I believe it was as well.

Anyone remember Marathon, Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity?

Of course not. They're mac games. But they're easily the greatest FPS games I've ever played - back in the days of m68k and Bungie.

Oh, and if anyone DOES remember, PM me, I lost my copies of 1 and Infinity.
