To put it in perspective, a 200-lb man downing 20 shots of vokda in a 4 hour time frame would register a BAC of about .41..

I'll take that challenge.

umm wouldn't that mean 91% of his blood was alcohol? impossible.

0.91% of his blood was alcohol

but.. isnt it a weight:liquid measurement? ie .91mg / 100ml or something? rather than volume?

Hmm, I wonder what my BAC was about 6 years ago when I had a party before moving to NY and had over 40 drinks in about a 5 hour timespan. After 20 or so I complained I couldn't taste the alchohol so they started making them stronger. Weighed about 165 at the time.

I was still buzzing when I got on the plane about 36 hours later. Guessing about .5?

This is simply BS. I work in the CJ field and the highest BAC I have heard of someone testing is 0.055. A rabid alcoholic would have difficulty reaching 0.40 and, in most cases, have less than 10 years to live. A 67 year old man would have died long ago from liver failure. Total BS.

We used to see numerous people over .4 at the hospital, it was common. People do stupid things to themselves.

30 drinks per hour or .50 BAC or greater = death

extremely rare in and of itself

I used to frequently have 20-30 shots in an hour. Sometimes of bacardi 151. Us navy guys know how to drink. 😎 I drank too much twice, and puked from it, but that's the only alcohol poisoning I ever had. I've sat in a room and watched someone drink two fifths straight down. Other than peeing a lot he was more or less ok. There's really no hard and fast limits, if you push yourself. True of anything, even drinking.

this question already appeared on the original thread (yes, this is a repost... scroll up) 😉

I don't think this is medically possible. Most people die at between .30 and .40. My mother (a judge) once saw a woman who got a DUI at .48, and it turned out she was injecting vodka. I can't see how anyone could survive at .91. I attribute this to inaccurate Bulgarian testing equipment.

OR there is nothing else to do in Eastern Europe... 😛

My initial thought as well. But they -did- do 5 blood tests.

Jesus, higher than ~.4 and you're in danger of blackout/coma. I can't imagine more than twice that. I wonder what he had been drinking.

maybe he had been drinking non stop (albeit slowly) for like 2+ days to build up to that level

to build up that kind of tolerance he must drink to .40+ every single day

And alcoholics do just that.
