Man puts six week old baby in freezer to stop her from crying

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Bail was set at $1 million Tuesday for a 25-year-old Washington man accused of putting his 6-week-old daughter in a 10-degree freezer for about an hour to stop her crying.

Doctors believe the baby will survive but it's too soon to know potential complications, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said.

The child's core temperature fell to 84 degrees in the freezer, prosecutors said. She also had a broken arm and leg and a head injury, medical staff determined.

Tyler James Deutsch pleaded not guilty to charges of child assault, criminal mistreatment and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence. He was represented by a public defender.

According to court papers, Deutsch gave Pierce County sheriff's officers several accounts but finally said he put the child in the freezer Saturday afternoon "because he was tired and she was crying."

I hope he doesn't last long in prison. Sick bastard. 😡

..

wow. words can't describe what i would like to do to that asshole..

he put the baby in the freezer over crying. then he fell asleep..

Can we please not waste taxpayer's time and money with a trial? Just put a bullet in this asshole... preferably in his stomach and then tie him to a stake in the town center and let people spit on him and kick him until he dies.

No, you got it right the first time... the stomach would be too dignified.

He looks like a bright boy. I wouldn't even give him the dignity of shooting him like an animal. I'd lock him in a freezer. Just set the temperature low enough to guarantee the most agonizing death.

Freezing isn't an agonizing death supposedly. He needs something much more harsh.

I think if you name your kid Tyler there is a 9 out of 10 chance he will become a douche. Just like if you name your daughter Candy there is a 9 in 10 chance she will become a stripper.

In the hospital my daughter was born at, before we took her home they required that we speak with a consultant about anger management while dealing with a baby (shaking baby syndrome prevention), and I'm really glad this is required.

It's a lot of screaming, and can really push you to the limit, and they explained (and showed us a video) how to maintain your sanity through it. A large part of it was just letting you know that it's ok to put them in the crib and walk away for a while. Every now and then look in to see if they are ok, but for the most part distance yourself. I've had to do this a few times (for my own sanity, not because I was going to injure her).

For most this should be common sense, but in these situations some people get worked up quick and snap.

While I"m sure this was a good thing for you, I find this extremely disturbing.

Which part, that we were required to speak with a consultant before leaving the hospital, or the walking away when the baby is crying?

If you mean the former, I agree, it is sad that this is a requirement now, but it happens a lot. Just last year a guy in our town threw his baby into the couch during a screaming fit, and the baby bounced onto the floor on his head and died.

Some people have a hard time managing the stress and just lose it. It's taxing to have a baby screaming in your face for hours on end.

The required consultant. I'd be ok with recommended but the use of required is just a hospital overstepping it's bounds imho.

My daughter is right at 5 weeks old now, my first child. I fully understand the frustrations with a crying baby, it really does push you to the limit sometimes. I wasn't required to watch any kind of videos but I think it's a good idea. Putting her down and walking away for a few minutes is a trick I've learned on my own. 🙂

Yeah, there was a checklist of things, it was surreal how much paperwork it is to take your baby home. We also were not supposed to walk out without my wife being in a wheelchair pushed by a nurse. We broke that rule though, because they couldn't get someone to take us for 30 minutes, and my wife was fine walking herself out, and the baby was in the stroller crying, so we just left.

They see the results of someone losing it and taking it out on an infant. They probably have positive results or they wouldn't do it.

I think the people who would skip the optional consulting would be the ones that needed it the most. I could see it being optional if it's not your first kid.
