We were out tonight for his GF's birthday and him and his family are suppose to leave for Mexico tomorrow morning. So after dinner we decided to not go out so he could go home and pack. Along the way home, him and another one of my buddies stopped by an ATM to pull out some money. My bestfriend was in the passenger side and my other buddy was driving, after getting the money he got back into the car. That's when some guy walked up to the car and pumped 5 shots into the car from point blank. Barely missing my friend in the driver seat but hitting my other friend in both of his arms.

At first when they called me all frantic I thought they were joking. Apparently after the guy shot up the car, they booked it away from the bank and stopped at a 7-11 up the street where they called 911. When I first talked to them they just said my friend was shot twice and they had to go and I should hurry to the 7-11. After that I had no clue whether he was dead or they were joking or what, complete shock.

I guess one bullet is lodged into his left arm and broke one of his bones and the other one went through his hand and grazed his other arm.

Complete random utter bullsh!t completely pisses me off like this. No hesitation the guy just walks up and fires into the car, we think he was hoping to kill them and then take the money or something.

Oh yea they didn't catch the guy yet either. I'm still in shock and I can't imagine what's going through their heads at this point. We tried to stay at the hospital as late as we could but they kicked us out cuz he's going into surgery later.

so PSA: don't go to ATM's late at night plz.

update:

Here's the news blurb, use bugmenot if it wants you to register.

Here's video of the news clip too
http://www.kgw.com/
it's the first link on the right that says 'Portland man shot' under Video on Demand.

My friend was released today and will have to go back later to get the bullet remvoed from his arm. The police were trying to hint to my friends that they were trying to do a drug deal that went bad, I kind of had that feeling too when I spoke to the cops yesterday also that they were suspicious of the situation. But I suppose it's their job to think of all the angles.

Damn... That's crazy. But your friend is alright, correct? (All things considered). Not in critical condition; no major arteries of the arm damaged, etc?

oh yea, those two are damned lucky to be alive to tell you the truth. At first there was so much blood that I thought it was a major artery or something. They took a shirt and wrapped it around one of his arms and it was soaked in blood, and there was blood all around the ground in front of the 711.

I dont know the condition that his arms and hand are going to be though.

Was he able to move them and everything? If so, I wouldn't be too worried. It's amazing how resiliant the human body can be. Glad to hear you'll still be able to talk to him later though...

I was rather relieved last week. I heard from an ex of mine from Thailand after not talking to her for 2 years. She had hinted of suicide previously, and I was rather worried. But I found out she is doing very well now, so I was quite relieved about that...

Sorry to hear that, and I hope he makes it through alright.

I also hope they catch the SOB that did it.

What's scary was he kept saying his arm was numb. But yea, in the long run he'll be okay. It's just scary how random stuff like this is, kind of shocks you back into the value of life. Here one day, gone the next.

I hear you about your ex tho too. It's even worse when you don't talk to someone for a while only to find out later they are dead. That's happen to me a few times.

We gather his intent was to kill or wound them and take the cash. He couldn't get anything cuz my buddy sped away after he realized what had happened.

Crazy. My brother narrowly avoided a gunshot to the head in a similar situation about 15 years ago... total random crap and they never did find the assailants.

That's f-d up if true. Probably some gang intitiation or at the very least gang related (perhaps they were wearing wrong colors or something else stupid.). Please post link to news blurb if it's out there, usually shootings get something in the paper.
