That's why I never use ATMs at night unless they are drive-up ones where you don't have to get out of the car. ANd also where they are well lit with no bushes or things for people to hide in.

Jeezus, scary stuff.... just 2 days ago I got some money through the ATM near my house at 10pm or something. A friend needed some cash cause apparently his company direct-deposited all his money to ING by mistake :))), so he needed some cash till he can get some back from ING. Anyways, when I pulled next to the ATM, there was a riced Honda Civic with very loud music coming out of it... They looked a little suspicious as one of the guys from the passenger side got out to "see or get something from the trunk", so I kinda backed off and waited for them to go. Yup, I was scared. Too much crime where I live...

Damn man, thats insane.

Whenever I use the ATM walkup or drive through I'm always on perp-mode x10. You hear too many stories like that now days.

You're worried about arteries? His hand may be unusable now since it's been shot.

That does suck. Good thing no one was fatally shot. I hope they catch those lowlifes that did this.

my question is...why did the guy shoot 5 times into a car?was he robbing them...or just completely psycho?

We gather his intent was to kill or wound them and take the cash. He couldn't get anything cuz my buddy sped away after he realized what had happened.

Why didn't your buddies shoot back and take them out???

Oregon has pretty tough gun control laws?

ATM, money was just withdrawn, I think it was a robbery attempt. The "shoot to kill, take their money and run" kind of robbery attempt.

You friends are very lucky to be alive, and I hope your wounded friend makes a full recovery. Maybe the bank has decent cameras covering the ATM and they can ID the shooter. One can only hope...

Thank you for pointing out the obvious.

Take away the right to bear arms and only the thugs will have guns and rule.

Apparently you meek Americans enjoy that.

Well the area that happened isn't the best of areas. But it's a busy street with bushes and apartment complexes and houses around. So yea I think theres plenty of area where some psycho could hide. Plus you never ever think sh1t like this is gonna happen to you, so you just go about your life oblivious to the random dangers out there. So for I know the guy could have been standing there watching them and they probably didn't realize, who knows.

My brother got shot in the leg at point blank range about 15 years ago in San Francisco.

The story gets positively crazy after that so I'm not even going to tell it...no one would believe it.

At this point, truth is crazier than fiction.

I hope your friend recovers without any complications.
Yet another reason to allow citizens without felonies to carry registered sidearms.
There will never be enough cops nor cops in the right place at the right times to curtail this sort of violence.
Furthermore having ATM's all over the place invites this sort of criminal. Banks don't care, they're protected by the FBI, but ATMs and the businesses that allow them on their property don't get that sort of coverage. But they will make their money regardless of who gets hurt in the process

Placing ATMs (without protective measures) in high crime areas is like opening a butcher shop in bear country.
