I work at a pretty well known company, and we standardize on Dell computers. With few exceptions, everyone who gets a laptop gets a choice of two, and there is only one desktop choice.

hypocrite

\Hyp"o*crite\, n. [F., fr. L. hypocrita, Gr. ? one who plays a part on the stage, a dissembler, feigner. Nobody that high up in my company knows enough to want a really expensive PC. They're all satisfied with their $2K tablets.

$60K SUV's are their company toys of choice.

then I sure as hell would not have bought a dell for that price..
Fragbook (like mine) Alienware or Hypersonic all superior laptops in that price range.. (and weight)

I guarantee he went to dell, picked the most expensive laptop and maxed everything out just to have a "top of the line" laptop. Or his kid did so he can play HL2 on it.

I have a pretty similar laptop, except it's IBM (read better :)) and Centrino... My company actually tried to give me a second laptop, but I told them I already had one.

They give me my choice of Dell laptop every 2 years. I'm still lugging around my C840 from 2 years ago. It's still fast, but HEAVY. I'm sure that guy has to deal with it too.

Lugging around a desktop-replacement laptop absolutely sucks.

<--- Company gave me a loaded Inspiron 5150 when I started.

Heh even our CEOs can't order special laptops here. We too use Dell but there is a Standard model and an Exec model. It Exec modl is just smaller and more portable but has everything external (CD, Floppy, etc) so many of them want the Standard ones anyway. And they are all just Pentium M 1.4s with 512 ram, DVD-Rom/CD-RW, 30gig, etc. Nothing fancy.

Those XPS's don't have docking stations. Give him a week of plugging in all his stuff and he'll be bitching to you.

What I just ordered
from HP: 3.4GHz, 1.5GB Ram, 128MB Video, 100GB HD, 17" WXGA+ display, DVD+RW... ahhhh, laptop goodness...

Of course it's on backorder and "end of line", and may be supplanted by the new 9600... Luckily I don't need it right now...

while i was an undergraduate my boss had to configure the two new laptops that belonged to the president of the school and his wife. i dont remember the exact config, but it was definitely top of the line at the time.

All the IS Analyst (me being one of them) at my company, we all get a IBM T41 thinkpad for home use. I think this is one of the best laptops out there in the market.

I have stuff that I buy for home shipped to where I work all the time. Maybe it's just the same thing here?

I can see the huge increase in this exec's productivity already!

Hell yeah.

4 HD porn windows makes you more productive! :p

So that for a laptop. Too dam big. I'd rather get a desktop and a big ass screen, like my 23" LCD :D and a nice portable laptop sub 4lbs.

He is VP so he must be doing something half decent right? Or 'have' done?!
