I work at a pretty well known company, and we standardize on Dell computers. With few exceptions, everyone who gets a laptop gets a choice of two, and there is only one desktop choice. They can request more ram, CD-RW etc, but generally users are limited to certain choices when ordering computers. Not so with the execs of course. Today a new laptop comes in for an exec:
Dell Inspiron XPS
Pentium 4 3.4ghz Extreme edition
Radeon 9800 mobility with 256MB ram
XP Pro (we standardize 2K, but he signed a waiver to keep XP Pro)
2 GB DDR RAM
8x CD/DVD Burner
Creative Audigy 2NX External USB sound
100 GB hard drive
Extended battery
modular floppy
$4500 or about $3000 more than the regular laptops we order cost. Glad those execs are working to keep the costs down!

This thing is a frigging MONSTER too. Not really something you take on business trips, it must weigh 10-12 pounds. I'm just curious what the dude is using it for, because it can't be work! Half-Life 2 just came out, this VP must be a gamer!
