Man May Lose Home Over Refusal To Pay Dog-Walking Fine

Yep HOA just adds "legal" bills over and over again until it eats you up and then they take your house. Then sell it to someone they know for what is owed in fines/bills.

Glad I don;t live in a HOA anymore.

Does Florida have a leash law? I wonder if the fine started at $1,000 or gradually grew over the years? Either way, the man is stupid and so is the HOA.

The $1000 fine seems incredibly excessive but he's the dumbass that bought a house with an HOA so its his own fault

he doesn't owe it to the town, city, township, state or any actual gov. he owes it to the HOA. what bs.

I dont see an issue over the fine. People should keep their dogs on leashes and they should pick their dogs crap up also. I can't begin to count the number of times neighbor's unleashed dogs com charging at my dogs (who are leashed).

this guy really needs to learn to pick his battles. while i hate HOA's and dont think they should ever have the power to take anyones house or force the sale he is a idiot.

I think this case is ridiculous, but it's idiotic of this guy to spend 7 years in court fighting over this. Surely he knew the house was in an HOA and also knew the rules. Assuming that, he knowingly broke the rules, and the fine (while excessive) should not have surprised him.

I'm with krunchykrome on hating it when people walk their dogs off leashes when there's a leash law. It's one thing if they clean up after them and keep them off my property, but oftentimes they don't. A dog walks up pees on my car, poops in the flowerbed, and then off they go. That's not cool at all.

I think this has less to do with HOAs and more to do with a guy that doesn't like to follow the rules.

Yes..I am not sure if a HOA controlled subdivision falls under private property though and therefore public laws sometimes don't apply.

I do think $1000 is excessive, I do think breaking HOA rules is bullshit.

I decided to pay for an older house with no HOA instead of just pulling the asshole move of feeling the rules are just for others. I still try to keep my projects behind my backyard fence and the noises outside sleeping hours.

What's really a kicker down here in Florida is many are renting expensive homes here in nice gated communities, piling up to a dozen people in a 3-4 bedroom home.

These 'landlords' aren't running background checks and sometimes have never met the tenants.

Lately in our nicest gated communities people are finding their vehicles stripped in their own driveways and there has been no forced entry to the community. It's neighbors.

Unfortunately police just can go knocking on doors and asked to search all the renters.
