If it's anything like what I saw and heard about, the same story was played out in hundreds of churches in Louisiana and surrounding states that set up "temporary," "emergency" shelters, where a few days turned into a few weeks and then a few months. Most people did get out as soon as they were able, but I know of plenty of situations where the membership of the church, who were volunteering money and huge amounts of time, quickly figured out they were being taken advantage of by a certain percentage of the people.

Come on, you can see this coming a mile away... Right after Katrina, you see people on TV complaining about not getting enough donations or aid etc, its like they expected to be given a free ride... Why should anything be different after a year?

I'm inclined to believe that they did tell this gal she could stay till the end of Dec and are backpeddling now, probably because she's not embracing the church and/or a new christian lifestyle.

Wow a lot of assumptions and speculation on your part :disgust:

Here, let me speculate a little...she's a parasite and doesn't want to work hard.

I'm willing to bet she wasn't even close to being self-sufficient prior to katrina.
Having her first child at around 18 then another one just before her first heads off to school, seems rather convenient.

Living off of the public dollar really is a full time job.

1 year is a LONG time especially when you don't have to worry about any expenses. Why can't you just see that it's just laziness that is preventing this woman from taking the step to become self-sufficient. Some people are just not happy unless they find ways to milk the system. And in this case, the woman is milking the system dry!
