The real story here is that the bear in question is (was) a total wuss and an utter failure at the proud bear traditions of killing and maiming. The other bears are on their bear forums giving it the Darwin Award right now.

If you had read the story he was writtne a ticket for failing to secure his camp site. If there was no open food the bear would not have come out to them. The bear did not care about the poeple until a shovel was thrown at it. If you feed wild animals they will keep coming to camp grounds more and more. The ticket was because he not only put his family in danager but also anybody else in the woods.
