if his dumbass son wouldn't have thrown a shovel at the bear, all they would have had to wrry about was buying a new cooler and maybe some food...

i'm also surprised the bear died with one blow too.

Jeebus. How big of a log and how hard of a throw does it take to kill a bear with a single blow?

I know this isn't a 1200 pound Kodiac...but still. That's a hell of a toss.

I'm seeing a 3-4 foot log at least a foot round, thrown hard and spinning like a baseball bat would and hitting the bear right between the eyes.

"the father saved his sons from harm by throwing a log at the beast, killing it with a single blow."

That's pure bragging rights for the rest of your life

I bet it was like that part in Jedi where the Ewoks killed an AT-ST with logs and rope...

His kid was 6, Maybe if the kid was 12 or 16 or 19, but he was 6 still at the age where big animals are not seen as big threats.

Dumb tough to give him a ticket, something like that happened here in Idaho. A man committed suicide by jumping off a bridge, 2 boaters on the shore saw him jump and swam out to save them, when they got back with the body a police officer gave them a ticket for not wearing life jackets.. Is it just me or can police be some of the stupidest people out there?

That sums up my opinion on the subject.

If you had read the story he was writtne a ticket for failing to secure his camp site. If there was no open food the bear would not have come out to them. The bear did not care about the poeple until a shovel was thrown at it. If you feed wild animals they will keep coming to camp grounds more and more. The ticket was because he not only put his family in danager but also anybody else in the woods.

They said it was a log from a stack of firewood.... so it was probably not longer than 2 feet the most (cut & quartered most likely)

Damm bears, you expect people to protect them after raiding helpless campers. I swear if a bear come raiding while I camp I wouldn't even think twice shooting it tens times with my shotgun
