SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A man who pleaded guilty to putting his wife's puppy in a 200-degree oven, crippling it, was sentenced Monday to six months in jail.

Third District Judge William Barrett ordered Marc Christopher Vincent, 36, to serve six months in jail without the chance of early release. He must also pay a $500 fine and $986 in veterinary bills for the dog.

Vincent, 36, pleaded guilty September 18 to one count of misdemeanor aggravated animal cruelty for putting the dog in an oven for five minutes on May 25 during a fight with his wife, Rhonda. She has since filed for divorce.

The black Chihuahua mix named Henry suffered permanent damage to its front paws and now limps.

As part of the plea agreement, a second charge of animal cruelty was dropped. Prosecutors had accused Vincent of turning a leaf blower on the dog in a separate incident, damaging the dog's eye so badly it had to be removed.

Vincent was ordered to serve two years' probation after his jail sentence, seek anger management therapy, have no contact with his wife or any animals, and get a mental health evaluation.

Salt Lake County prosecutor Elizabeth Henry said Utah is one of nine states that has only misdemeanor punishment for animal cruelty.

I thought this was just down right cruel and he should have gotten more. There should have been no plea bargain for this a$$hole.

Six months in jail? That's generous. That fvcker should get a decade minimum. I hope he gets abused and ass-pounded in those 6 months.

Unfortunately the average person has about this much consideration for animals... and, truth be told, humans other than him/herself. What's funny is these are generally the "people" most adamantly in disagreement with evolution theory and the fact we're animals.

Makes me think of one of those court shows where a girl went on vacation and her roommate moved out without notice and let the girl's dog starve alone and died after 5 days.

What the hell is wrong with people. Even if you hate your roommate take the dog to the pound or something sheesh.

its a dog...!! most of you dont get this upset when this stuff happens to people... If it happened to a cow most of you would have gone to get some ketchup, i know i would have

Not if it was killed in such a cruel and painful manner. Did you even use your head, or have you figured out some kind of post bypass system?

I prefer the cow I eat put down by painless electric execution rather than slowly cooked to death at 200 degrees in a gigantic oven.

Chihuahuas are very loyal dogs; they give you so much love and companionship (sometimes more than a wife/husband).

Chihuahuas are pretty damn smart too, contrary to what you may believe.
