You never hear on the news about all the good things Americans do w ith AK-47's. When was the last time the liberal media reported about the civilians who repelled an invasion by Cuba with their AK's or when a pirvate citizen prevented the beginning of the zombie apocalypse because he had his AK-47 on him. The media will never report on how necessary a weapon like that is to the every day citizen and how we should all be able to get them! jeez

This is why we need gun control.

If he had gun control he would have actually hit someone.

It's obvious that guns are not dangerous and especially if you try to attack a Chinese resturaunt filled with trained ninja's you don't stand a chance.
Oh BTW, he didn't have an AK47. He had a clone of one as he had a semit automatic rifle.

Isn't is possible to modify one so it isn't fully auto? I was always under the impression a fully auto AK is illegal but if you restrict it to semi auto, you can then own it / register it legally. Then again, I am far from a gun afficianado.

Actually, I bet that charge will be dropped. Not that what this guy did doesn't deserve to be punished. In his state you only need a permit to carry handguns. The law doesn't include rifles.

In any case, I hope they lock him up for a long long time for being such an idiot.

And take away all his guns and forbid him from ever owning them again.

It could have been an AK-47. They do make (or at least they used to make) semi-auto only versions of that rifle. I know someone who owns one.

lest you forget that we already tried that.

it didn't work.

...or are you being facetious?

But if we ban guns AND alcohol then there would be no alcohol production crimes or criminals defending it's production and distribution!

oh wait...

He wasn't a criminal. He was just some guy. He probably posts on atot.

How do you know that? I just reread the article and it didn't say anything about him not being a criminal, or being just some guy...

Criminals don't care about guns laws and guns are cheaper in the hood anyway. I know it makes sheep feel safer to have people filling out 4473 Forms and NICS checks but really doesn't do squat. 9.99999/10 times guys like in this story weren't allowed to have them in first place.

Gun control is bad.

Obviously it works so well, considering he wasn't supposed to have it there in the first place. Oh, wait...

He wasn't a criminal.

He is now (or will be soon)...

They're not as bad as one might think. I was out shooting with a buddy and he shot a laundry soap jug from well over 100yd with mine.

Depends on the AK and if one is firing full-auto or not. The AKM (basically an improved AK-47, it is what most people call an AK-47), like all automatic weapons, is highly inaccurate if one just holds down the trigger instead of firing short bursts or semi-auto. I assume that the guy had a semi-auto AKM (which is far cheaper and readily available, but the full-auto one is legal (if you have the proper paperwork)), which means it should have been MORE accurate than one set to full-auto mode.

The AK-74, which is what The Red Army uses (it replaced the AK-47 / AKM), is significantly more accurate thanks to a modern 5.45x39 bullet (similar to the bullet in the AR-15 / M16). The AKM / AK-47 uses the older 7.62x39 round, which is good for punching holes directly through people, but is not as accurate and does not cause (AFAIK) the same horrific maiming of the "poison bullet" (the name given to the AK-74's round by the Afghans that it was used against).

But, this guy was close enough such that the accuracy difference between the 7.62x39 and other non-scatter rounds should not be relevant.
