What the hell?

Seriously, this guy made a jump rope without the rope. You know, so you don't trip over it. Apparently it simulates jumping rope. I remember this activity I used to do as a kid, called jumping, and I didn't need two handles to hang onto when doing it.

What the hell is wrong with people?

It's an awesome idea. Jumping rope also gives your upperbody a workout as well.

Are you...are you serious? Please tell me you aren't serious.

While I agree jumping rope is a good workout, why not just hang onto two toilet paper rolls as the article suggests? Or nothing at all. Jump up and down and swing your arms.

Yeah, go ahead and hold onto those 2 oz toilet paper rolls and jump around.

If you ever used a real rope, not some pink barbie rope, and jumped for about 5 minutes your arms can really feel it, and this product simulates that activity without having to worry about tripping over the rope.

It is silly, but if it makes people work out, then great.

Not only that, I could see that being very useful in an aerobics class. Aerobics classes already use weight handles, why not add another element of centrifugal force to simulate jumpropes.

Jump ropes work not only your legs but your arms too, especially the wrist if you do it right.

It makes sense, anyone who has jumped rope knows that it takes a lot of room or you are hitting something with your rope (people, walls, cielings, etc). To simulate the weight and, more importantly, the movement of that weight as it shifts around without the need for a rope is a very intelligent design. You could use it to do jump rope activities within a small confined space most likely where you do your dumbell lifts / etc.

So you are saying you would buy this? This to me is like the stair stepper fad from the early 90's. I remember my mom wanted one of those and they cost like $120, so my dad went outside, got some lumbar, and made her a box to step onto.

She ended up going and buying a "real" stepper instead. This one was plastic and came with an instructional video.
1) Step on stair.
2) Step off stair.
3) repeat.

America is officially the laziest country in the World. Every new invention just proves that its true.

I don't think I would call this being lazy since I'm sure you can still get a good workout... but it seems like part of the benefit of jumping rope would be improved coordination and removing the actual rope would seem to completely remove this benefit.

when I first saw the thread title I thought it was a very stupid, but after thinking about it, it's actually a great idea. it will allow you to "jump rope" in doors where the rope would normally hit the ceiling or something.

Yes, but doing jumping jacks with weights would probably work better.

possibly but doing jumping jacks with weights is nothing like jump roping other than the fact that your jumping. when i jump rope i don't move my arms to my side and then raise them up over my head as I jump. you basically keep your arms out to your side and make circular motions as you jump.
