Looks cool. Hope he has plenty of insurance if there is an accident.

I am not an insurance expert but I find it hard to imagine a company willing to write this guy a policy. The whole thing just seems SO potentially dangerous, in that the wrong kind of fall could easily kill a rider or turn him into a quadriplegic. Personally I think it's awesome, but I'm not sure I would trust the same person who thought this was a good idea to actually build it.

Roller coaster lover John Ivers says he never had much opportunity to visit amusement parks

Probably because he spent all his free time building a mini one in his backyard.

Of all the cool and interesting things you could build in your yard, I think this is one of the lamer ones IMO.

I am pretty sure he has no intention of getting insurance on this thing. It is probably going to just be for him and his buddies, and the youngins can stick to the blue flash 2.

That's awesome. I remember seeing this on Discovery a while back. I'd totally ride it. It looks fairly solidly built, it does bend a bit in a few places but as long as the track is staying together the cart can never come out.

Actually imagine if you took out all the liability/lawsuit crap that exists in today's world, we'd probably see more of this, and more amusement parks in general. Mom and pop amusement parks and stuff. Would be awesome.

This country is in a sad state of affairs when 3 of the first 6 posts are concerned about liability insurance.

Well if you ride it yourself, no issues, if you let neighbors ride it and something goes wrong, issues-a-plenty. Smart way would make said neighbor sign a waiver stating that riding the "Blue Flash" is at your own risk. Nice job though, that's a lot of time welding to get that thing up and running, I admire this man's ingenuity and ability.

If my neighbor wants to take the risk of riding the thing, then he should take the consequence. :colbert:

Agree, BUT if neighbor gets hurt I doubt your homeowner's policy is gonna cover "homemade roller coasters" if it malfunctions and he gets hurt LOL, that's why I would make anyone who wanted to try it sign off on a "at your own risk" waiver, you'd be surprised at how fast friendly neighbor's can turn on you if $$ is involved.

It's just not building the maintenance has to be through. Lots of vibrations and such to loosen bolts and rust would also be a issue.

Insurance? LOL my brother in law had trouble getting home owners insurance because of the big trampoline they had in the back yard. They ended up getting rid of it for that that reason.
