If you have that many documents, why not take them to a commercial shredder... a local UPS store advertises that they shred documents... also a local news station regularly holds a free document shred day...

Have you even actually done that? You can easily whatever you've blacked-out by holding the paper up to a light source.

Most shredders have an automatic shutoff if they get too hot. Unplug it and let it sit for a bit (30min+) and cool off, then try it again.

If it still does'nt work, it's probably fried.

My cheapy Memorex shredder 1 year ago did this once and I thought it was fried. Tried it later and still works to this day. (now about 3 years old)
