Man, I love what my taxes are doing for me.

I woke up this morning alive because my house is built of regulated materials making it safe. And my fire department is there to put out a fire that might kill me.
And my milk didn't have poisonious pesticides. Neither did my cereal.
I was able to walk down the street in safety because of the police. And I went to the bank secure in the knowledge that my money was FDIC secured.
And I got on the internet, invented with government money, and checked my email. I checked my stocks which I bought knowing the financial reports are government regulated.
I took my two prescription medications knowing that they were tested under government supervision. And quite likely would not have been invented without government aid to colleges and for research.
I used a credit card knowing the government has rules preventing them from raising the interest rate to 50 percent overnight.
I got in my car that has seat belts because of the goernment. And was government crash tested. And put lead free gas in my car due to government regulation.
And I drank safe water from my tap thanks to my towns water treatment.
I bought cheap goods at the store delivered over government paid for hiways.
I made money off customers who recieve Social Security and would not be able to afford my services.
I knew I had a nearby hospital that wouldn't be there without the help of Medicare and Medicaid patients, paid for by my taxes.

I put on my winter jacket and secured it using the velcro discovered by my taxes.
And watched a dvd whose development was partly paid for by my taxes.
I drove my car cross a bridge paid for by my taxes. And knew it was safe despite being 50 years old because the government inspected it. And my taxes are building a replacement bridge next year.
I was able to cross an intersection due to the governments traffic signals.

Almost every government regulation I mentioned was the result of problems that occurred without government regulation.
My country is safe, my home is safe, my health is safe. Without taxes none of that would be true.
So while I and others can complain and moan about paying taxes, the results have been spectacular.

This has been posted a million times and is a chain email.
Honestly a small ban for copying a chain email should be implemented imo.
But I will leave it upto the mods to decide if this rule should be created 😀

I believe you techs. No one else in the world would type one/two sentence paragraphs in a format that is so annoying that people dislike you for it. And no one would be proud of it because an outdated author once liked the format. 😉

People who gripe about the rich need a reminder of the good they do as well. I could start a retarded thread about how much I love the rich CEO of my company because he gives me a job, pays my bills, allows my children to eat, allows me to buy an Xbox 360 and play gears of war all night long, etc etc etc...

He does not give you anything as long as you work to earn it. If you sit around surfing all day you may be right.

Poor choice of words on my part, but my point stands, if it wasn't for rich people I (and most of us that work for private companies) wouldn't have jobs. Then we couldn't pay taxes, then Techs wouldn't be so excited about how much he loves taxes.

Techs, since you are such an advocate of higher taxes, why don't you pay a little extra every paycheck?

The obvious question is how much of the Federal budget is taken up by all the good things you listed above.

And how much of the budget is spent/wasted on needless things or things that can be done better or cheaper?

Also a LOT of what you listed is the result of local and state governments, which tend to be far more fiscally responsible than the Federal government.

My taxes pay for a war I am opposed to and a good ol' boy network of political corruption that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Hmm... you're right. It was invented by a private Swiss engineer. Text

Oh well, only an idiot believes what he reads from a chain email.

Well according to the 'pigbook' link there was $27.3 billion in pork in the 2005 budget.
A decent chunk of our money basically wasted in give away to make some congressman more popular. Some of the best things listed: $100,000 for the Tiger Woods Foundation; and $75,000 for Onondaga County for the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame.

This is just pork, imagine how much money is floating around in worthless programs?

Also the number of people working for and therefore the cost of running the government is HUGE, way more than it needs to be. But cutting that is one of the hardest things to do.

I was curious about the Syracuse Hall of Fame. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you'll see Congressman James T Walsh(R) at a ribbon cutting ceremony, so maybe he knows what the $75g was for ? Looking arond their site, I see they erected a clock commemorating the NBA 24 second clock, which just happens to have cost $75g, but it doesn't say where the money came from.

My taxes pay to give lazy people free housing, countries who hate us aid and illegals healthcare.

So, lets look at it like this.

MY taxes pay for the war and military and YOUR taxes pay for social services and to help the poor downtrodden countries.

There, now dont we both feel better? 😀

We don't disagree. But as always, the question is, is it the least of evils? That's where we may differ.

It's a bit like democracy, which I see as very flawed, but better than the alternatives I know of.

How are you going to get rid of some spending that helps the congressman get elected, when the system rewards that? The voters are welcome to discourage it.

The dems are taking one helpful step in pushing for earmarks to be publically identified.

Actually you are right about that one. I thought it was invented for the space program.
My mistake on that.
