hacked by doing stupid shit like leaving your FB account logged on at the apple store. it's not like I want FB linked to my Chase account, but to youtube who gives a fuck.

It probably is just stupid people (and by that I mean just computer stupid) but I know dozens of people who have been hacked. Hear about it all the time.

Apparently you're not paying attention to the news.

Police departments are using Facebook and other internet sources in their background checks for possible recruits.
Credit agencies may begin using social sites to weigh on credit.
Employers may begin doing the same thing.

That shit does not stand in my book, and using Facebook for everything makes your online identity that much easier to track.

Ugh.

Facebook can diaf for all I care. Tried it once, added all my friends, and then it's like: Now, what?

I don't care for status updates that all my friends post. I don't care for your likes or dislikes. I don't care that you play some shitty game through facebook. I just don't care.

It's not all bad of course. Chatting with friends is in a nice centralized place, but I managed to do fine before facebook. Keep in mind though, I only ever added people to facebook who I actually thought of as friends. So I didn't have a friends list in the 100s like so many do, it was 20-25 max.

You put in a lot of sensitive info into facebook and a lot of different websites use that same login? No thanks, I'll stick with the old fashioned way.

I wish i had the overall knowledge and ability to write a lengthy blog post comparing "good and evil"

yea, its been done... but has it ever been compared via what they actually mine from the data...

Facebook is the one that stores only what you give it for data... but yet has the most pull style of advertising possible... they literally know the you you want to be.

Google is the one that stores anything and everything you give it for data. But yet, they know the least about what you want to be, and know more about who you really are...

What is more important in the future?

Someone needs to create a case, that stores handiwipes in the back, and when you launch an app, it warms them up for you... and then shuts off after dispensing preset number... (maybe only like 12 can be stored)

Someone compromises your Facebook acct and EVERYTHING is compromised.

That's a GOOD thing?

Not really. FB accounts can be 'hacked' anytime you access it from an open wifi network in seconds. I picked up over a dozen FB credentials from the coffee shop in my local Barnes and Noble a few weeks back with my laptop and the Firesheep FF Addon. Its laughably easy. Still a fault of the user for being an ignorant, but FB isn't exactly doing anything to curb it or educate users.

thanks, loading blacksheep onto my shit now.

Any idea how that works with mobile phones that access over wifi?

"Another Firefox extension known as BlackSheep, developed by Zscaler, was also created as a counter for Firesheep. BlackSheep works by sending fake session data for Firesheep to detect, and promptly warning the user if a computer running the extension is detected. The extension itself is partially based off FireSheep's code.[4]"
