Man, @home is faster in win2k!

When I was running WinME, I was averaging download speeds of 1mbit. Well, I installed WIn2k the other day and my connection seemed a little speedy. Well, I just did a speed test, and it was over 2mbits!!!!!! Why could cause my speed to go up so much?

It could be due to a slightly corrupt registry when you were running WinMe...so when you intalled WIN2k it fixed THEM

2k has better TCP/IP. My speeds increased more when I went to XP. I don't know why. Maybe the improved the networking protocols or something.

I've noticed XP (and probably 2000) have thier default RWIN settings at much higher values than
Win98. Windows 9x seemed optimized for Dial-up connections, while the NT-based OSes seem
to be tweaked for network/broadband connectivity in mind.

Yup. the 9x line was never meant to be used that much for networking, as a home OS. Be default in Win95 (the original) I don't even think TCP/IP was installed. NetBeui or IPX/SPX.
