man has 134 pound gigantoscrotumectomy

this pisses me off so bad.
1) this isnt covered by disability? how the hell are people which truly are disabled on it supposed to get treatment?
2) the doctors told him to lose weight? yeah, that'll help things like this, and like cancer, damn quacks.

The article says he is on "Disability", and I believe it's a safe bet it's SSI, which gives him Medicaid.

(If not Medicaid, then he gets Medicare, some deductibles & co-pays, but not enough to bankrupt a person, but either way, I'm sure he is covered by one or the other!)

In Kentucky at least, Medicaid pays 100% of pretty much any and all procedures. (So much so that people here take an Ambulance to the Doctors office!)
No way he "can't afford" to get it fixed, I would bet he's trying to profit from his condition.
Most likely scenario is he was too afraid to have surgery.

You are either full of BS or full of ignorance.

I am on disability, both SSI and SSDI and it doesn't cover so many problems... several of them I have and have been suffering through because they don't cover one damn way to fix it. And several of them are either terminal or life threatening.
 
I'm actually disappointed that they don't have pics of the thing. It outweighed most women I know. Hell, they said the total weight removal was like 160lbs...

I certainly hope I am neither, rather relating from having lived in the (seemingly) Welfare capital of the US most of my life!

What, pray tell, illnesses do you have that Medicaid doesn't cover?
Heck, people I know get treated for stress, with no out-of-pocket, I can't imagine not getting a true disease treated!

(My sister is on SSI & she gets admitted to the hospital whenever she runs out of "Food Stamps" (card) just so she can get free meals, God forbid she spends any of her "check" for food!)

Him: I have a problem, my scrotum weight more than 100lbs.
Doc: Lose weight fatty.

Seriously??? If that guy had D cups as breasts, or a rather large posterior, I could see the argument, as that is a typical fat storage area. But the scrotum? I still weigh well more than I should, but I likely have 0% body fat in my scrotum. It's a frickin sack of skin with two organs in it, and I am pretty confident most males have the same situation.

When that fracking thing weighs 1,000,000 times more than other men, your being overweight likely has NOTHING to do with it. Hell, I bet you find a 700lb man and his situation is SMALLER than the typical 180lb male. UGH, to live with that for any duration of time longer than a week is FAR too long.

Anyone undergoing complicated elective surgery which requires a great deal of reconstruction and possible grafting are told to lose weight, quit smoking, eat a nutritious diet, and get their diabetes under control.

It is ELECTIVE surgery. And you need to be able to heal it.
I am a big guy too... so I understand losing weight fucking sucks..

But if you can't wipe your own ass, you can't have extensive surgery on your scrotum and taint.

He needs to be able to heal this when they do it. If you are sickly and smoke and have a terrible diet you have a significantly higher rate of poor wound healing, infection, and graft failure.


If you are fucking dumb and don't have a least a mild understanding of medical practices you should keep your fucking mouth shut. Asshole.

Elective surgery??? Getting a tummy-tuck is an elective surgery. Getting lose skin removed is elective.

Having a 100lb scrotum corrected may be elective, but it sure as shit isn't the same thing as the two above. Fuck almighty, the guy can barely fucking walk. He can't fucking work. And the mental anguish from having people look at you in that condition has to also be of utmost difficulty. This is not some routine elective surgery. It is a rare condition. The guy would be better off losing that condition immediately and then worry about the recovery afterwards. No matter what way you slice it, recovering from something like that cannot be easy.

As I pointed out to the other moron, weight loss had nothing to do with fixing his 100lb hydrocele.

The surgery the Urologist is talking about is total groin reconstruction, likely because the mass has caused so much damage to the tissues that local reconstruction is frankly not an option. Likely due to pressure necrosis and terrible wound management (secondary to at least partially obesity).

The last thing they want is to do an incredible complicated procedure and this guy not be able to take care of it or him not be healthy enough to heal it.

It is not an a rare condition. Hydrocele's are incredibly common. 100lb ones are incredibly rare, but the condition itself is not.
And it is not life threatening. It is not dangerous. And it will not kill him.

A major wound infection can easy kill him though.
Your bolded statement is exactly my point. Recovering can be significantly worse than living with it.

I have seen very large hydrocele's and I have seen huge inguinal hernias (similar but containing pieces of abdominal content, like bowel).

We fix them all the time, but unless they are incarcerated/strangulated, torsed, or infected, we fix them electively.
You can live with a giant mass.
