Do you have any proof to back up the claim that privately owned prisons influenced the creation of drug laws? Or are you just spouting bs?
Yeah, I don't know where he gets that from. Most prisons are not for profit. Most are state run and bleed states dry.
Yeah sometimes I wonder why we are fighting the Taliban. We should ally with them since our views about crime and punishment seem to co-inside.
If you cannot get with the flow of things after 3 chances you deserve to be removed from society.
There are actually a great deal of privately owned prisons. Look up the term "prison industrial complex."
I'll keep it short and simple: some have found a way to re-legalize slavery through exploitation of prison labor.
If you want to do more reading on it, I suggest the book "The New Jim Crow."

A couple fun little facts:
60% of African American Men who are imprisoned are in for drug related crimes. There are about 5x more White Drug users overall then African American.
We imprison more people as a % of population than Russia did under Communism.
There are a total of 264 private prisons in the US housing 99,000 prisoners. The 2009 prison population was 2,292,133.. I wouldn't call that a "great deal" of privately owned prisons. There are actually a great deal of privately owned prisons. Look up the term "prison industrial complex."
Forced penal labor hasn't been a common practice in the US since the 19th century. And even then, it didn't have wide spread adoption. Now, prisoners have the choice of working, and they get payed for it.I'll keep it short and simple: some have found a way to re-legalize slavery through exploitation of prison labor.
...
BS. Pretty much all of these "fun little facts" aren't supported by anything. While I did find that black men are more likely to be arrested for drug related crimes, the usage rates were something like 10.3% for black men and 8.3% for white men. 5x more white drug users is a big stretch of the imagination.A couple fun little facts:

Obama is just giving conservatives whatever he can to increase his chances of being elected. Hence, his sudden turnaround on issues like this that won't alienate his base. Perpetual war, another 4 years of suspended constitutional rights, and now going after a bunch of stupid pot heads. Gotta throw the dogs a bone once in awhile.
This guy is a loser with no respect for the law. Every time I see some statement like this is not a violent crime, I just want to shoot the person in the head. What about innocent children that get caught in the crossfire of the gangs that sell the drugs? Victimless crime my ass. His attitude is cause by lack of enforcement on the federal level. Every time the Feds fail to prosecute or allow the state to let people off with a misdemeanor for posession, they are sending the message that it is OK for people to do illegal drugs.
I think we need to go in the opposite direction and make possession of marijuana an automatic death sentence.
The biggest proponents against the war on drugs (and especially medical marijuana) are democrats. The fact that you ignore this speaks to your own political bias more so then the facts.

Yes, there are privately owned prisions, but the vast majority are not privately owned.
As for more blacks being in prison, that has nothing to do with prisons, or drugs. Blacks, across the board are more likely to serve jail time and have harsher sentences no matter the crime. Its a flaw of the criminal justice system.
Thanks.
He looks like a serious dumbass.
Looks like he was never in prison for the previous charges, just suspended and on probation. So why not just actually make him go to prison this time instead of probation? Jumping staright to a life sentence seems excessive to me.
