Man gets 20 weeks in jail for whistling

stupid guy. He already had a court order to stop whistling that to his neighbours and decided to go ahead and do it. No wonder he is in jail. It's called contempt of court.

yeah since whistling is so damn bad. the court order should never have been in place to begin with.

you didn't read too closely. the guy was basically stalking them. He was waiting for them to leave /arrive at the house so he can whistle the tune at them. That is definitely stalking. I guess the neighbours got an injunction against him and this idiot still decided that the magistrates did not mean it when they told him to cease and desist.

PS Aren't you the one complaining about your neighbours calling child protection on you? You should be able to relate to the couples being harassed?

What makes you think this wouldn't happen in the US? Sounds like he was constantly harassing these people. They're in their 60s. You don't have laws for that?

/edit: not that I think this is a good use of the court/prison system but it would certainly happen elswhere too

WINGERWORTH, England, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A Wingerworth, England, man has been sentenced to 20 weeks in prison after he repeatedly whistled the theme to "The Addams Family" TV show at his neighbors.

Leopold Wrobel, 51, was convicted of violating an antisocial behavior order directing him to cease whistling the tune at neighbors Michael and Kathleen Sharpe. Magistrates at a Chesterfield, England, court also found him guilty of two counts of harassment, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

Prosecutor Michael Treharne said Wrobel's behavior may seem silly "but if something happens on an on-going basis and goes on and on and on, eventually it reaches the stage of being absolutely intolerable."

Kathleen Sharpe, 66, told the court Wrobel was always waiting with his whistling whenever she left her house.

"I'm so relieved, it's been an absolute nightmare. It's affected our health and all the family," she said after the sentencing.

Wrobel claimed he was not the perpetrator and only whistled at his dog, but closed-circuit TV footage shown to the court depicted him repeatedly whistling when the couple left their house or arrived home.

The neighbors of this weirdo had a court order telling the weirdo to stop harassing them. Are you saying that there should be no consequences for violating such orders?
