Bullshit, then what is to stop them from arresting everyone and making us all work for 25 cents an hour? This guy was a grad student and should never have been in the prison, much less working on the chain gang. Work in jails should be reserved for long term inmates and prisoners CONVICTED of crimes.

I agree, until someone is convicted, the work should be volutary. They talked to some of the inmates in jail on the show Jail, and they said they liked doing the work because it allowed them to get out of the cell area and they enjoyed the very small amount of extra freedom they got from it. It also helped them out with the judge when the jail would submit the document saying they were good workers who caused no problems.

Don't disagree with you Pr0d1gy on this situation, still think people should have to pay back what they take. Mind you I think many things that are illegal currently shouldn't be and you'd probably have a lot fewer people in prison if I got to pick and choose which laws stuck around,.

Anything could be taken advantage of by ruthless people. Paying taxes could be compared to slavery. Taxation is the same as slave labor. We should make everyone pay some kind of a minimum tax. Even if it is only like $200 military tax. If you cant pay, you have to send one son to the military to work for free.

How is slave labor an incentive for the jurors?

The cost of their license plates stays low. Their county doesn't have to spend tax dollars to keep the roads free of trash. I'm sure there are other juror benefits if there's a large pool of ultra-cheap laborers in prison.

Here they have prisoners with no violence crimes doing trash pickup along roads, painting government buildings and more. The prisoners are on a waiting list to get into the program. They don't pay them anything but the reward is for every day you work you get 2 days off your sentence.

I don't know but it somehow is. How many men have been given 10 years in jail for having an amount of crack as small as your finger nail?

That is a good program, entirely voluntary.

Considering he wasn't actually convicted of anything, this seems like a pretty clear 13th amendment violation to me.
