Not a whole lot different than what happened in the US not too long ago. You would get your brains fried through electro shock therapy just for being unruly. Teens who cut class too much were also thought to be mentally unstable and sent to electroshock. We also lobotimized a lot of people who were simply normal people. The worst part is how these doctors were the actual criminally minded people, yet they were given ribbons and medals and lived a life of luxury.

Sad...but not surprised by this story.

Just came back from 6 weeks in India volunteering in hospitals and rural camps...lets just say we are daaaaaamn lucky!

Did you know that the first person to get a lobotomy came back and killed the doctor who did it to him? Pretty nuts huh?

"I feel sad at what happened to my life but there is no use grumbling now. I am just waiting for death," he told Reuters at his nephew's home in Silchang village, about 55 miles east of Assam's main city of Guwahati.

"Initially, I used to miss my family and always begged my wardens to send me home. But they never listened to me," he said with tears in his eyes.
Those 2 lines are so sad. Coming to the realization that there is nothing left of your life. He has missed a million experiences that he is now too old to even attempt.
