A man fed five live kittens to his pitbull dog when he went to a party in Gisborne last year.

Te Ahu Aaron Mankelow, 31, pleaded guilty to five charges of wilful cruelty to animals after he recorded himself on a cellphone tipping out five kittens from a box for his dog, and urging his dog to eat them.

Something in a parked truck attracted the dog's attention. When Mankelow looked inside, he saw five kittens, their eyes not yet open, in a cardboard box.

He took the box from the truck to a reserve alongside the property.

He tipped the kittens out of the box for his dog, which attacked them one by one, urged on by Mankelow, who recorded the whole attack on his cellphone.

All of the kittens were killed.

Someone called an SPCA officer who identified the remains of five kittens, with broken bones. At least one kitten had been disembowelled.

I would do anything to spend 10 minutes alone in a room with this guy.

It's not the dog it's the person. It's been well documented that people who get pleasure out of torturing animals (yes feeding kittens live to a dog and filming it is getting pleasure out of torture) often go on to a life of violence against people. Many a serial killer started off getting their kicks out of torturing animals.

the dog wouldn't have killed the kittens if the owner hadn't given them to it.


as far as as killing a bear for just the fur, that is one reason why I will never buy a fur coat. I don't believe in killing anything just for it's skin. if you're gonna kill it, use everything you can and not just take the skin and leave the rest.

As Howard mentions you aren't supposed to either but it's also different because most people have a stronger emotional tie with dogs and cats than they do with mice. We are all animals so one may as well ask what's the difference with feeding humans to lions, they would eat them naturally in the wild given the chance. The difference is that at some point we start imparting human qualities onto some of the more developed animals or simply those we keep as pets. At least as most people are raised they are supposed to have an emotional connection. Not having any such emotional connection can be a sign of a psychosis.

three, live mice/rats can injure a snake. some people will train their snake to eat dead rats just so they don't get hurt.
