Man Fakes Death on the Internet

How could anyone think this would end well?

After being a member of an Internet community for about six years, a man faked his own death. The only explanation either he or his — potentially also fake — accomplice offered once caught was that the whole thing was a "bad experiment or joke or whatever carried too far."

What's worse is that I heard about one guy who made up an entire fake persona online, built her up, developed a relationship with and MARRIED her, and then killed her off in a car accident. Crazy!

I'm a member of another forum of a bunch of guys that used to play BF1942 together. Fairly tight group. One of the members for years represented himself as a chopper pilot in the army. Would post pics from the desert, told us about his deployments, etc.

Couple years ago the guy's "brother" posts that he was KIA. Some members started digging around, and someone actually tracked down the home address and drove over, only to confront the asshole at the door.

Never know with online. For all you know, I may not even be the real Jeeebus.

This reminds me of when I used to play NOLF online several years ago. It was a small community, so everyone knew everyone else for the most part ("knew" in the internet sense of the word). One member of a prominent clan had been pretending to be a girl for several years, and someone tracked her down and found out they she was actually a guy. Alot of People were pretty mad about it. Internet drama...
