"CHICOPEE (CBS/AP) — A Chicopee man is facing charges after posting “Put Wings on Pigs” to Facebook, police say.

Chicopee police said Monday that local residents alerted them to the “very disturbing post” by 27-year-old Charles DiRosa.

On Saturday, two New York police officers were killed by a gunman while sitting in their police cruiser. The suspect, who then killed himself, had posted “I’m putting wings on pigs today” on social media, according to officials.

“After the events of the past few days, the PD took this threat very seriously,” Chicopee police wrote on Facebook.

A Chicopee police spokesman says the phrase is a threat “in the eyes of every police officer in America today.”

DiRosa will be summonsed to court for Threat To Commit a Crime, police said.

Police will file a complaint in court seeking a show-cause hearing. If the court determines the complaint is valid, a trial will be scheduled.

A phone number for DiRosa could not be located and he did not immediately reply to a Facebook message."

Was going to defend him and say something like, "when pigs fly" is a common term and adding wings to a pig isn't that big of a deal. Then I saw his picture. Yup. He is a douche.

You can tell he is forward-thinking by the fact that his neck tattoo is backwards.

Here is where I draw the line in freedom of speech.

In NO WAY do I condone what this lovely human said. In no way is that reasonable to say (especially in the area) where this crime occurred and the exact speech that was said by the criminal before the crime was played out.

HOWEVER, that does NOT put a gun in his hand and make a crime play out. Therefore, he should NOT be charged with ANY sort of crime or criminal activity. This is harassment, pure and simple. I do draw the line in "Freedom of speech" with statements like this, but it's not a crime for fucks sake.

It's no more than code for saying "I'm going to kill some cops tonight". Then this stupid lovely human goes and repeats the exact codewords for "I'm going to kill some cops tonight". He's a douche, no doubt. But I'll defend anyone when the law wants to overstep their boundaries. Put him in jail and book him for appropriate charges, but a crime? Really?

ATF does not allow the personally derogatory use of this word.

And police wonder why so many are turning against them now.

If the law says its a crime to threaten police publicly, then its a crime. The judge will apply an appropriate interpretation.

Fair enough. It's up to the judge to determine if that is an actual threat or just a retarded punk harassing. Let's be honest, it's the latter of the 2.

It could also be construed as inciting violence. Freedom of speech has it's limits. You probably support laws restricting hate speech though right?

It's TABOO as seen through a mirror. What is so backwards about it?

You're right, I didn't take into account that he had taken a pic of himself in the mirror instead of a selfie.

He still looks ridiculous. I know tattoos are "in" now, but IMO you might as well tattoo "I have poor impulse control" on your forehead.

Sounds like some free speech, this is what we've come to as a society? All you're really teaching people is not to put it on facebook. (hopefully)

I have been thinking about this since first reading about it. The post alone would be fine. But it's such an odd thing to say (post), and considering the timing of him posting exactly what a murder said, using exact same words in the exact same order: it's enough to raise questions.

That guy is obviously trash, but I don't see how what he did is in any way a crime. If it is, then surely everyone in the population is guilty of a similar crime at one point or another.

I get it, the cops are sensitive to something like that right now, but that doesn't mean freedom of speech goes out the window.

Exactly why I don't use facebook, everything there can and will be used against you, not to mention its monitored by police, employers and anyone else who can benefit from it. There are no benefits from having a facebook, only downsides.

I think his post was appropriate, given the environment and the situation in the country at the moment, cops being given free reign to kill and shoot anybody they please and shown time and time again (twice recently) as being absolutely immune to the laws they are suppose to enforce.

For sure, a violation of free speech, but that's because we don't really have free speech here in the U.S. There are laws limiting it, when the authorities feel like taking someone in. The only free speech allowed in America is one that could never lead to anything.

its never appropriate to threaten to kill people. ever.

It is when those people are killing others. The government, the ruling class that runs it and the cops that protect them are out of control and are in a state of war against the middle and lower classes.

Of course, this man will be thrown under the bus and the public will cheer because they've been fooled into being bootlickers for authority and believing in the myth of us being a free country, when that freedom is just an illusion.

There is literally hundred years of Supreme Court precedents showing this kinda stuff is NOT protected speech. See yelling fire in theater, inciting riot, "fighting words" etc.

I don't know where people get this idiotic notion that anything coming out of your mouth is constitutionally protected.

He didn't yell fire in a theater. He posted a comment on facebook. A comment that isn't all that uncommon in many areas, such as Chicopee or Springfield MA.

So next article up, he actually incited a riot somewhere, right?

LEO's should be on guard everyday. When they become lax, bad things can happen. While they're busy dealing with facebook posters, there's actual crime happening in their city. But hey, as long as our first line of defense is safe, then no worries....it's not like they knew what they were signing up for anyways.

Because they don't bother reading, or can't.
