I have played every COD title for the PC, until Modern Warfare 2. I thought I would give it a shot on the 360, and figured I would pick it up really fast. Boy was I wrong,.. I want my mouse and keyboard soooo bad. I know that after time it will come natural for me and I will get used to it,.. but man do I hate feeling like a noob that can't do anything but crouch in a corner hiding. Even then somehow these super guys run in and kill me fast.
So does anyone feel my pain and have any tips, or am I just bound to keep getting 2 kills and 30 deaths every round for a while? I played it last night for the first time, and need to get in a game with some friends I guess to give me the low down on maps.
I feel so out of my element with the 360 gameplay so any advice would really be appreciated, or even friend invite's to help pop my cherry on this game. xxxCYPHILISxxx is my g.t.

Someone's got to be cannon fodder, and it might as well be you :).

But seriously, you just have to play more and get used to the mechanics of the controller.

It just takes time to learn the chokepoints and tactics for the various maps and getting a handle on the kind of play style you're good with.

I've been playing FPS games on Live for 5+ years, and I STILL suck. Like 1:2 kills to deaths. I'm terrible, and feel the exact same as you.
You can practice all you want to get the feel for the controller, but it seems like the good players either know the maps inside out or are cheating or something, cuz there's no way I can unload a clip into a guy's head and he stabs me once to kill me.
Oh well, stats don't mean nothing anyways. It's still fun.

Try playing the 3rd person game types until you get familiar with the maps and weapons/perks.

My biggest tip is to keep playing. The reason you suck (besides unfamiliarity with the controls possibly) is because you are Level 1 (don't have good perks and weapons), have never seen the maps, and just plain aren't used to MW2. It gets much better.

will do thanks. I am just so out of my element. If you could change around the controls it would be nice, but I can't make them to how I want them, more like what Im used to. I am tempted to go back to the PC on this game though. Maybe Ill jump back and forth between the two.

I played the first Modern Warfare on PC as well, and then bought a 360 a couple of months ago and decided to get it for xbox this time.

What I did was I beat the campaign first to get used to the controls. After that, I just chugged away at the multiplayer until I was familiar with the maps and better at joystick precision.

I just got to level 50 after nearly 3 days of playtime. Only now am I finding my groove and getting K/D ratios over 1 on a normal basis.

You need to learn the maps, what gear you are comfortable with, and when to use it. Plus you'll unlock more things as you learn - and spend time trying them out, sucking in the process - but eventually you'll find what works for you.

I do almost all of my FPS gaming on the PC, but I wanted MW2 for the 360, since the majority of my friends are 360 gamers and don't use their PCs for that.

I sucked pretty hard at first, but after about 15 hours of play time, I'm starting to get the hang of things.

My K/D ratio is just now starting to break even, or maybe 1-2 more kills than deaths during matches.

What's helped me the most was just playing all the maps a bunch of times, I learned where the majority of players like to hide and find the spots on some maps that usually get over looked.

I was in Wasteland last night as a sniper. I was laying prone on the hood of one of those cars. I turned to my right to see an enemy running right at me, thinking he was going to kick my ass, he ran right past me and I ended up knifing him.

After a weekend of relaxing and not trying to hard, its really coming to me now. I'm finding what weapons works for me on certain maps, and slowly learning the maps. The only thing I can't get past, is how some guys just seem to spawn from my butt.

It takes some time. I was at a friend's house and we were taking turns doing multiplayer matches, and one of the guys (who almost never plays) went like 4-17 one round. At one point he was standing still, out in the open, not doing anything, and there was a guy just up and to the right of the middle of his screen. Probably 30-40 feet away. For a few seconds everyone was screaming at him to get that guy and don't you see him before the other guy finally noticed him and popped him.

Just get good at situational awareness. Know where you are at all times and where enemies might come from.

The RPD with a fore grip is nice, it was one of my most used weapons. However, after unlocking the AUG HBAR, with fore grip, it's my new favorite LMG.

To me it has the accuracy of an AR but with higher power. The mags are small and you get less overall ammo, but I tend to do better with. Plus, the stock iron sight is very usable, I actually prefer it over the RDS, which means I don't need to use up my Bling perk.

I have found something that really helped me a lot. I could never get real used to the 360 thumbsticks, so I swapped them out to the PS2 and that has totally changed my game. I feel like Im in control now, and have better aiming then before.

I gave 3rd person a shot last night,... wow was that strange. My score was like 2 - 19, so I will stick with the 1st person for a while longer.

You mean you took your 360 controller apart and just put different thumbsticks in place? Interesting; I wouldn't even expect them to fit.

I just placed an order from Kontrol Freek so I'll see how those work out. They make little thumbstick extensions to give you more precision.

Yes Sir. I watched a few youtube videos for my research, this one was the most informative http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKKNlt3MpH8 The thumbsticks themselves, slide right in perfect, and attach the exact same way as the 360 thumbsticks (very surprising I know).
There are a few differences though. The "skirts" on the bottom of the PS2 thumbsticks are longer, so I just used sand paper to have them about the same as the 360. If you leave them long, they tend to hit your left bumper (I kept throwing my damn flash gernade everytime I tried to sprint). I also notched out a small place in the skirt, to help keep me from hitting the bumper mechanism inside the controller. One more thing, the holes that the thumbsticks go through on the top cover of the controller, is a little tight as the PS2 thumbies are larger in diameter. You have to push pretty hard to get the thumbstick to go through the top cover, and that worried me about pushing hard on the board like that. So I just took a dremel tool and reamed them out a little bit. This also helped with how fast I turn around, because the base of the thumb sticks are about the same between the 360 and PS2. All in all, it was a super easy mod to do, and since most of us have a PS2 controller sitting around its worth the time and effort. It helped me big time, as I could not get used to the concave style on the 360. The PS2 style is domed, and now I am hitting BOOOM HEADSHOTs like a pro.
On a side note, if your worried about being down a PS2 controller, the 360 thumbsticks fit right in and work just fine,.. so its backwards compatible.. ha-ha. I have read that PS3 thumbies work just the same, but I can't say for sure. I do know for a fact that PS2 works, thats what I used.

I can't believe nobody's seriously recommended you get an XIM360 yet.

If you were good playing on a keyboard and mouse, the XIM360 is the answer for you.

I have researched them, but they are pricey and its about 50/50 on the reviews. I'm getting the hang of the controller now,.. getting it dialed in and feeling more confident. The big thing with me now, is I'm low level and don't really have the kick ass guns yet. Not to mention I'm so sick of the Wyatt Earp sawed off dual shotgunning people that do nothing but sprint everywhere pulling the trigger non stop. Not much fun for us that are used to aiming down the sights and shooting a gun like its supposed to be shot.
