Weird that some people can do this kind of thing, get away with it, and just live out their lives like nothing happened, others are so racked with guilt they would rather go to jail than keep living with it.

The article said he was a suspect but hadn't been charged. I would have to think he knew that.

I am guessing this was calculated move done solely to try and help reduce his sentence. Not only that, the video will probably get enough hits that after he gets released, he will turn the attention it got into a money maker for himself.

I know a person very well who killed someone in a DUI.

He chose to deal with it much differently and IMHO, better. Attention whoring on youtube is not the right thing to do.

He may have been a suspect, but given that the accident was 3 months ago, I have to imagine they didn't have a solid case.

If he wanted to reduce his sentence the smart thing to do would have been to negotiate with the DA for his confession

That was my thought as well given how stylized the video is. The music was over the top.

If it was just him talking into a webcam I would be much less suspicious.
 
Its a maximum of 8 years, its not like he's signing his life away here. Not that his life won't be totally fucked after 8 years of prison.

Also, I'm not sure it totally makes sense or helps anyone or anything to put away someone for killing someone while driving drunk. I'm not saying there should be no punishment... but its a complete accident. The smartest, most responsible person in the world could have too much to drink and kill someone on the way home. Then they rot in jail for years while completely sober? I guess there is no other way besides deterrent but its not like when you are drinking heavily you are thinking about the consequences.

People can't "choose" to have sex when drunk, but they should be expected to "choose" whether or not they should call a friend or a taxi when drunk?
 
Watched a good part of it, he seemed to indicate that his own attorney was trying to get the evidence of his intoxication thrown out to mitigate his culpability in the crime.

Not what I got from it. He said an attorney thought he could get it thrown out but that he was going to take responsibility for what he had done.
