It just seems like it would be more expensive to build one than to just buy one. I can see something like a Pantera maybe, or something classic and rare, but I don't understand why for a new car.

I imagine they spent a lot doing it, but then again they do have the only one that exists outside of Mercedes' development facilities.

Of course the illusion disappears the moment you lift the hood, but it's a damn good replica.
