Numerous persons who grow-up on farms or just out in the country raised livestock when they were children and became attached to one of them, which was later eaten or sold for slaughter. Children getting attached to pigs, chickens, a turkey that will be sold, a cute little baby cow. Is this really any different?

I love dogs and would not eat one for emotional reasons, but I can't explain why dogs should get some kind of favorable or special protection under the law, if we are grilling up other animals with herbs and onions.

Total Agreeance. Though, I wouldnt eat one for not only emotional reasons but also the very big Im-Pretty-Sure-Im-Going-To-Hurl-If-I-Eat-You-Max factor.

I think that it is important to point out now that Eating Dog in Tonga is NOT a delicacy/custom/or part of Tongan culture. This guy is one of a small percentage who eat dog.. likened to .. homeless eating out of a rubbish bin perhaps?

What is facsinating is that one guy eats dog in NZ, and now the are talking about 'Educating' Tongans as they get off the plane on what is appropriate food.

What they need to be worrying about is the rate at which our children die.

you need to stop eating them

Har Har Har:p

Fortunately that IS illegal.

As long as he didn't torture the dog to death there shouldn't be any problem. It's comparable to an Indian criticizing an American for eating steak.

You can't really tell the difference between dog and pork anyway. They both have the same texture. This brings back memories of eating dog meat and noodles in China, mmmm.

I've been thinking about it, what is the difference between killing and eating a dog and a pig? They have been shown to have comparable intelligence and are both living animals. The only difference is YOU get attached to one and not the other because of your culture whilst this man sees both as edible animals. You can complain about moralities and what have you like in that article, but then it just go back to the old poem of the "The White Man's Burden" which satires the belief that your culture >>> their culture and therefore you must force everyone to live by your rules. be Animal rights groups FTMFL.

Do animal rights groups specifically protest eating a particular species? I'm pretty sure they never say its ok to kill chickens but not dogs. They just don't want either animal to be tortured, or animals in general to be eaten at all.

Except dogs have been man's companion for 100s of years so obviously people will have a stronger bond. Tell me when a pig or chicken has protected a family, saved a life, assisted a disabled person, etc...

qft may as well throw bottle-nosed dolphin on the list when people think all animals are equal.

the Human is the ultimate animal btw for those that can't do the math.

Pet dog = HIGHLY unethical...

bred for food dog = fine if killed humanely and for consumption.

Is this what the guy at the pet store was thinking when he said buying a dog for 1000.00 was a good investment?

I know people eat dogs in some places in the world, but I can't believe after having it as a family pet they just decided to kill it and eat it.

Plenty of people do this. I had a pet Dog in Korea that we killed had stewed. It was delicious. But mostly they use "bad" breeds more or less specifically bred for the purposes of eating.

So the rumors are true.

I grew up in Korea until I was 9 and we never ate dogs. It's more of a taboo now, since the newer generations frowns upon eating them.
