state population

Using NY and CA was an example. Click the link above. See the population numbers. If we do away with the electoral college, NY and CA would have more votes then Alaska, colorado and connecticut, idaho, maryland and hawaii combined.

edit: added second link!

is that even legal?

no, it is not. it is against state and federal law.

That's never stopped the democrats before!

They were giving out cigarettes to homeless people to get them to vote for Gore in 2000 here in Wisconsin.

That sucks. All I got in 2000 was 3 packs of cigarette and a bottle of Thunderbird. I guess I need to advertise more.

Hmmm, actually, California gets 55, NY gets 31 votes in the next presidential election..
55 + 31 = 86

Respectively, Alaska, et al, get: 3 + 9 + 7 +4 + 10 + 4 = 37 electoral votes.

Thus, California alone gets more than all those other states combined!

I think you're thinking of the Senate where it's 2 votes per state.
Number of votes in the electoral college is proportional to the population of a state.
(that'll teach you to not like my cat picture!) 😛

while i agree people have gotten more stupid it dont change the fact that the poeples vote does not really matter.

I still think that we should go on the popular vote over the electoral college. maybe then more people would vote and we would actually feel that our vote matters.

Popular vote will create an opportunity for NYC, LA, CHI and a couple of other cities to control the complete process.

What is needed is some type of wieghting with the popular vote that does not penalize the small states/areas.

well still, at least now less densely populated states can feel like they're a part of the process, and presidential candidates actually care about them (well enuf to campaign there at least).... 🙂
