At any rate, my point stands: The man is not a parasite, he is running a farm and to do so, one MUST accept subsidies.

Agreed, but he IS one howling hypocrite, which was the OP's point, after all.

Kansas farmer posted a big sign up saying "Democrats - party of parasites"

The problem?

The farmer got over $1million in gov subsidies over the past 15 years. Whoops!

Of course, he denies the logical inconsistency and claims it's OK for him to get subsidies, since it's just his tax money coming back to him, LOL.

Once again, anyone else getting money from the gov is a bad person, but it's always OK for yourself. :\

Those same old Geezers that helped pay for your education which at this point doesn't seem like a very good investment

I think he would agree and disband public education while you're at it.

Unless you are a child, have never had taxable income, or live in a country other than the USA you have already allowed it to happen to you. I would be willing to bet that if you reach age 70 it will still exist in some form and you will be demanding your share of what you have paid into your entire life.

I never said I hadn't paid in to the ponzi scheme. However, I'm not going to let it be an old person payment to myself or my kids. It needs to be abolished and there are some very good options out there to cleanly wind the program down/phase it out. However, in it's current form or any form that allows IOUs for future benefits will be doomed to failure. The ONLY way it will work is for individual accounts but we have that with investments and 401Ks. The problem is - the gov't doesn't get to spend the monies while tossing a paper IOU into the jar... so it's going to take a lot of work to educate people on how SS is detrimental to all and is really nothing but a wealth transfer(from the productive to the old) type tax.

Um, corn subsidies are largely a democrat party theme, though some republicans have signed on as well.
Was "Farm Aid" a republican gathering with leftists Wille Nelson and John Melloncamp supporting it?
When does Farm Aid have to do with corn subsidies? Are you under the misapprehension that it is somehow a government welfare program?

Ah, okay. Tell that to the 50% of America who pay virtually NOTHING in federal taxes. Why do they have flushing toilets?

Flushing toilets are moot here anyhow, my toilet flushes because I pay local utilities and taxes.

Hey look I am not saying its all peaches and cream. But the arguments of not paying taxes is stupid and fracking lunacy. We have a tax system for a good reason and to keep hearing conservatives bitch and moan like a bunch damn toddlers cutting their first tooth is getting old. We need to rework our tax code. Last time I checked Obama, the very man you hate, has spoke of this numerous times. Our tax code is flawed and full of errors, but to keep using the completely unrealistic dumbass idea we should just stop paying taxes is assnine.

I enjoy the debate, but many times you guys post and argue points that are just unrealistic. For you to make some silly ass argument that the 1 million this guy got was just a refund, is fracking retarded, man. I may not like you very much, not at all actually, but most the time you make solid arguments, but your stand here is just dumb. Sometimes you just gotta admit those who you support are wrong sometimes. Just like the thread on what Pelosi said. She is completely wrong and in that instance I can't back her. Grow a pair and call a spade a spade, if even only part of the time...................

you have fun tossing all that straw?

please point to where "keep using the completely unrealistic dumbass idea we should just stop paying taxes is assnine" is located.

Oh and no doubt BHO and his minions want to rework the tax code - just completely the wrong way and clearly the most detrimental to our economy.

Ok, so you WON'T read the longer, scholarly PDF articles OR even the shorter Columbia Encyclopedia history which directly REFUTE your contention.

Why?

Even the shortest one, which you do respond to, you skip over the directly relevant and explanatory part:

Why?

You then misapprehend what you DO quote.

Nope, translated so you understand:

What you bolded points out the protection from the BUST part of the boom and bust cycle resulting from swings in commodity prices! It's WHY farm subsidies were instituted!

Here, again for you, I'll quote the part of that article that directly speaks to the question of WHAT farm subsidies are for, something you would KNOW if you only bothered to read more of their long history in America, which I still encourage you to do.

Instead, you fixate on one term and then misapprehend it!

WHY are you so determined to avoid the basic facts outlined so explicitly, even more so in the longer articles I posted before.

Why?

Amused, if you knew even a little of the incredible advances in agriculture and the resultant astronomical gains in yield per acre that have occurred in the last 50-60 years, you would have your answer, but you are obviously entirely unschooled in the basic facts of what has happened world-wide in agriculture through the green revolution.

Get a clue:

Combined with tremendously increased competition from other countries whose improvements, starting from a lower base, have been even more spectacular, and combined with vastly improved distribution channels (Americans eat tons of imported produce) means, simply put so that even you can understand, supply and efficiency has so outstripped demand in our markets that price have remained remarkably low.

Again, farm subsidies have long addressed the problems of volatility in the markets, the BOOM and BUST cycle, that once made farming such a chancy commerical venture.

Indeed, as I have repeatedly stated but you have stubbornly refused to comprehend, the boom and bust cycle is THE REASON farm subsidies were instituted in the first place.

Read the damn history, Amused.

The reason why they were created is irrelevant to what they are doing now, and that is artificially lowering grain prices and creating dependency among farmers.

This is no longer a bailout or anything of the sort, but federalized price fixing. You do NOT get a fourfold increase in production costs while maintaining grain prices at during the same time unless the market is being subsidized BEYOND the point of bailouts.

Which proves my points about subsidies: They now make corn farming impossible unless you accept them. Which, in turn, makes this man no hypocrite.

Yep. And over-manipulating of markets by the government is price fixing and trade protectionism as well.

So this guy is a hypocrite to you because the government has made it impossible to grow corn without accepting their subsidies.

Just wow, guys. It's not like HE took a welfare handout. No, his BUSINESS took a subsidy required for it to stay in business.

But don't let that stop you from slandering the guy...

He has gotten over a million dollars in subsidies? Why didn't complain about parasites under Bush?

Again, he had no choice but to have his busness accept the subsidies.

And I don't know why. Why do you seem to think the left is any better than the right?

Subsidies for BS "green jobs" are OK though, right?

Democrats most certainly are the party of parasites but at least in the past they were smart. The current crop aren't bright enough to understand their fate when they kill their host.
