Actually I live in Columbus and the wife just told me the story she read was that the guy was shoveling the sidewalk infront of his store and did not here it coming. The local town officials at first were trying to lay the blame all on him but now they are saying "we will look into it"

Looked like he was standing there with his back to the street, maybe retreiving his mail? Might be a mailbox, hard to tell. There's other traffic noise, looked like he was doing something, he's on the sidewalk and while there may be noise from the snowplows it wouldn't have seemed out of the ordinary. Not like a car horn blaring or screaching tires - I tend to gawk at everything that moves, but I've noticed most people only register things out of the oridinary. Which the rumble of a snowplow on a snowy day isn't, and isn't much of a concern to most people on the sidewalk.

Notice both saw him though, first hit his brakes, second veered to the left slightly - didn't brake, didn't stop, but obviously saw him or he wouldn't have moved over.
