Malwarebytes, why hasn't an AV maker bought them out yet?

Malwarebytes seems to me like the software that the majority of forum users recommend when someone has a malware-type problem that the AV hasn't picked up on. Considering how much the AV vendors are worth (e.g. McAfee is owned by Intel these days), is anyone else surprised that these companies haven't tried to buy out MalwareBytes yet?

Name? They are big enough in our little world, but outside? Everybody knows what Norton and McAfee are. Malwarebytes? Maybe not so much.

Personally I hope they don't get bought out, they are fine as it is and most likely the free version will disappear

Surely that's ideal, because then the buyer can justify not paying a great deal for them, integrate the features of Malwarebytes into their own product, and move on.

I thought that there was some sort of legal limitation on A/V software detecting and removing malware that wasn't a virus. Maybe they're not interested because of that reason.

The question involves acquisition, i.e., why is Malwarebytres not a prime target for same. This article shows that Malwarebytes is looking to grow through acquisitions. Sometimes it is a matter of dollars and sense.

In that case, most of them are in trouble for detecting cookies.

I think what you're thinking about is an anti-virus product detecting say the Ask Toolbar as malware when it's more accurately classified as 'PUP'. A lot of AV products already claim to detect PUP, they're apparently not very good at it though.

We will see someone buy out Teamviewer before Malwarebytes...

Actually, it was bought by Permira which in turn will problably sell it again in a few years for a even higher profit.
