I've posted before, i post at other places, i've decided not to bombarb any single site with my whining.

I do weight training 3 days a week, swim if im not weight training, have a pretty strict diet, and am still a fat bastard.

I started doing fitday again, the diet has remained the same, only now im logging it to be SURE that's all im eating. It is, im still not losing weight.

I guess that's not true actually about the diet staying the same, i recently bought a food scale and found out i was eating significantly less than I thought i was (3 ounces of chicken when i thought i was eating like 5.)
bitch cry moan, i hate all of you people who can lose weight.

Details? How you lift? What program?

How you swim? Maybe try running? I read that swimmers get very hungry and eat all the calories they burned in the pool right back up. I was an swimmer myself (elite team 10 hr/week of practice), and I ate truckloads after a workout.

I do starting strength.

Squats, Deadlifts, Military press, Row, Dips, Chip-ups, Sit-ups, Bench Press. 3x5 for the olympic lifts. im getting stronger, not getting thinner, nor is body recomp happening. I've been at this for months.

Swimming is moderate freestyle for 30 minutes. I don't eat after i swim unless it's time to eat, diet is very regulated.

i doubt there's anything "wrong" or "special" about you - if your calories in were consistently less than you calories out, you would lose weight. end of story.

some questions:

1. what is your weight training routine?
2. how much are you swimming?
3. what is your diet?
4. how are you calculating calories in vs. calories out? how much is your deficit?
5. how are you calculating "weight" loss? if you are building muscle and losing fat, your weight might stay the same, but you are still getting healthier. perhaps you should be measuring body fat %, not weight.
6. how long have you had this routine? weight loss can be a very slow process.

obviously, weight loss does have some more subtle details to it - for example, you could be losing muscle, or fat, or water weight, and things like sleep, genetics and stress levels all play a role. but at the end of the day, if you have a consistent calorie deficit, you will lose weight. but again, remember that it's typically a slow process. to put it into perspective, 1 pound of fat is about 3500 calories. if you have a 500 calorie deficit per day (which is pretty large), you'd be losing 1 pound of fat per WEEK. over the course of a month... that's just 4 pounds. but stay with it and you will become healthier, despite your whining :)

I didn't quite read all of what brikis said, but I agree with his first line. If you are LOGGING EVERYTHING and MEASURING EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth and you are taking in slightly above your BMR, you will lose weight. If you add some sort of aerobic training in there, your progress will be accelerated. I'll post here later when I'm out of my midterm and I'll read all of what brikis said and add anything that hasn't been said.

986 calories for the whole day? That's way way too low for your weight. You're starving. You can't eat that far below your BMR and expect to drop weight in a healthy way.

You're not eating enough and your body is going into starvation mode. Looking at your previous days, you are eating 1800-2000 calories, but burning 4000. Your body is pissed for sure. Up that calorie count and spread the meals throughout the day if you haven't already. You should never be hungry.

I'm not hungry throughout the day. It also seems unlikely that I need to up the calories, if you are going by what fitday says for calories burned, im pretty sure whatever calculations they do, it's bullshit.

I really don't know what to think though, i've done my research and been strict in adherence, just isn't working.

Are you sure you aren't gaining muscle and losing fat? I don't want to be the death of you, but have you looked into more serious methods such as a ketosis cycle? How long have you been doing this? Years or months?

How long have you been eating like this? According to fitday you used to weigh 260, but dropped to 245. Also, how are you measuring progress?

From the sounds of it, you've been dieting for a while and lost some weight and now the weight loss stopped. Your choices are either 1) increase the deficit (through diet or activity) or 2) take a break from dieting to let your metabolism recover a bit. I pick the latter if you've been dieting longer than 6-8 weeks, as over time your body will adapt to the fat loss which will result in slow or no fat loss at all. Don't be discouraged if bodyweight spikes a little during the break though. Most of it will be water, especially if you've been on relatively low carbs while dieting. Even if you gain a pound of fat back during this break, it's nothing in the grand scheme of things. Especially since you'll likely lose fat at a much faster rate once the diet break is over.

So take 2 weeks to eat at maintenance calories and then shift back into dieting by dropping calories until you are losing between 1-2 pounds a week.
