Male nurse

Awesome opportunity.
In our little town hospital there are currently two new departments that haven't been opened because they are unable to staff them.
They are offering signon bonuses and excellent wage-benefit packages to RN's.
Aside from that, the opportunities to go from RN to a sweet desk job are never-ending.
It's a can't miss opportunity. You're making an excellent choice.
Congratulations!!! 🙂

Are you ready to clean up sh1t and vomit, blood and other nasty stuff ? If you have no problems doing it, then go for it.
Great demand for another 20-30 years and pay is good.

P.S. But I assure you, sometimes you will have to see such ugly things that it WILL make you lose your lunch...well, at least in the beginning.

Go for it. My aunt, a physician, told me that male flight nurses are in high demand.

Yep they are.

Remember my post about the supply demand curve? I make more as a staff nurse than a flight nurse does. I know dozens of flight nurses, and they all took a pay cut to become a flight nurse, many of them work 2 jobs to make up the $ they lost.

You also have the added bonus of falling out of the sky, hoping to hell a stray gust of wind doesn't send a rotor blade down to decapitate you, working in increasingly smaller & smaller choppers to save $, and the thrill of working in a zero defect profession for 24 hour shifts at a time.

Just go to medical school. Have a little more ambition 🙂

As a nurse you'll just be the doctor's bitch for the rest of your life.

Yep good career choice. Guarenteed job, even though some of your female counter parts may be better suited for the job, they won't get hired. Also, your classes in college will consist of 60 girls and 2-3 guys.

I'm in a female based field too (Child and Youth Worker), it's good stuff. 🙂

Good to see another C&Y worker. What state? He speaks the truth. Us guys inour office are out numbered 25-4. Its a pretty small county though.

I'm in Toronto, Canada (it's becoming a pretty worldwide profession now, they have the field in australia and ireland too from what I know). On my 3rd and last year @ George Brown College.

My brother is a registered nurse, working for a correctional facility, and he really enjoys it. He used to work at a nursing home, and he had a lot of fun with the old folks - hearing their stories, playing little jokes on the ones with bad memories.

smart career choice, lots of jobs, growing industry, good pay if you can handle the hours/stress

i can't take the blood/gore

the SO of one of my employees makes $115K/year...

115k/year for a nursing job?! 😕
There's a big shortage right now. In the city I just left, anyway -- they were shipping nurses in from across the country and offering amazing pay. Crazy.

I know there's a shortage and all, my aunt is a nurse for a respectable heart hospital but worked all over the place before that. NO WAY a nurse makes 115k unless they have like 20 years experience and a couple raises here and there, otherwise BS on that salary.

Only in California where housing eats up most of the salary.

I'll make close to $100K outside of California, but I have 2 jobs...

Id suggest going into nursing and then advancing to the OR or a CRNA (nurse anesthetist). You do almost the same stuff as an Anesthesiologist (for about 1/2 to 1/3 the pay 🙂 ) but you dont really have to worry about malpractice.
