ok fellas, her eat work the goofballs ordered a new pc but it has XP home on it and not home.

I set it up with my username and password and made sure it was on the same workgroup.

i rebooted and all that logged it and it still wont let me see any of the other pc's on the network.
i went to my old pc and i can see this one but i cant access it.

firewall is off.
i am the admin

not sure what i missed or need to do to but i cant make this XP Home pc see the XP Pro work grouped computers.

i know it can be done right ?
i just have never worked with home much

what tool are use using to test if you can "see" the other computer. If you say Network Neighborhood then we are done. It's not a real realible tool for this. How about Ping and Unc Paths (i.e. \\server\share)

yeah the //path wont work. ping works for the IP but i cant Ping the pc name unless i have forgotten all of my netowkring basics. :

and sorry for the screwy typing i was in a hurry as the phones were ringing off the hook but i wanted to get this posted quickly

i hate home, always have its only missing a few things but it makes a difference when it comes to this stuff.

As far as i can tell we are not on a domain or anything its just a workgroup.
we are just plugged into a router hooked to a cable modem.

K i can manually add the network shares via \\ip\share

hhmm wonder why i cant see them via the NNH.
i've seen XP cahce network id's and such for a little while but a simple refresh takes care of that.

Also one of the other guys still saw me as MSHOME instead of the correct workgroup name which i changed it to.
he also refresh a few times.. hhmm...

WinXP Home does only Simple File Sharing.

If the rest of the Network uses, or might need, more elaborate Sharing settings you should upgrade to WinXP Pro before you are wasting your time.

Otherwise May be this can Help, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
