it's true... though not really that important. even if the Repubs keep control of the house/senate, Bush only has a short time left to effectively govern (or whatever passes for "effective" in washington these days) before the republicans start gearing up for the '08 open field and Bush will have to step back soas not to overshadow the race (especially if his approval ratings stay in the 30's)
 
Investigations -> fine.
Impeachment -> complete waste of time.

Even if you could prove an impeachable offense was committed you aren't going to get 2/3 of the Senate to support it. Also Dick Cheney as POTUS would have even less support than Bush does. :laugh:
 
My point is there are Dems who smell the blood in the water and have been screaming about impeachment. Some of their constituants have been screaming about impeachment. Hell, some on this board have been screaming about haing Bush/Cheney hung for treason.

So here comes Nancy saying point blank, "there will be no impeachment" going so far as to call it a waste of time. So given statements like that... IF the Dems win the house will we see Speaker Pelosi?
 
Heh...I just posed something of the same question in a different thread. Peronally, I hope that IF the Dems do take control of the House, they do some serious looking into possible articles of impeachment...and IF they can find enough hard evidence, that they procede with it...Granted, unless the Dems take hard control of the Senate, (not that many seats up for grab IIRC) then there wouldn't be a conviction, but WTH, I'd settle for that. We've had to endure the same from the Repigs for the past ~8 years since Clinton was impeached (but not convicted) It's time for a little payback...and YES, I KNOW we'd rub their noses in it every chance we got, just like they've done to our side...
 
Absolutely. Why impeach Bush? GOP needed to smear Clinton because he was doing a great job and they had nothing to attack him on. No such problem with Bush. His place on the ash-heap of history is secured.
 
We have right-wingers here who said that the democrats absolutely will impeach Bush if they win. I don't expect to see retractions, unfortunately. I disagree with Pelosi on this; I think impeachment should be on the table if high crimes are found by Congress - but she has taken her position.

Nahh, should the Dems get in, which I highly doubt, we Liberals will calm down and let Bush serve out his lousy term.
The whole Right-Wing media push to energize the Right-Wing pretty much ensures the Republicans will hold both houses this election cycle.
 
Much as my very being craves retaliation against the GOP for their bl*wjob based impeachment, Pelosi is 100% correct here. While there are grounds to impeach this Bush, it would be playing into the hands of the neocons. No impeachment would be successful and would certainly weaken the public's impression of the Democratic Party (and politicians in general, if possible). The Dems need to concenctrate on repairing the damage Bush has done to this great country and preventing him from harming it worse during the remaining months of his last term.
 
I just want to see investigations. Will Pelosi become the Speaker? Probably. Murtha has stated an interest, but meh to him as Speaker.
 
Investigate them to death and see what they can dig up to use before the '08 elections.

There's nothing to be gained by impeaching Bush. His record of 'achievements' will be tied to the GOP for decades. There should certainly be a full accounting of just how dysfunctional and dishonest government has been during the Bush!t Era, though.

Bush will be Nixon without the benefit of ever rehabilitating his reputation.

I disagree. Impeachment isn't the sole form of accountability in government. Further, Bush has messed up virtually everything he's been involved with over the past six years. To the extent possible, Democrats and moderate Republicans need to work together to FIX things. A realistic approach to Iraq (granted that will probably fail but it's better than 'stay the course'), a real coalition against extremism worldwide, fix our borders, real/sustainable/responsible energy policy, real discussion about reforming healthcare/healthcare financing, real discussion about reforming SS, reign in the reckless Executive branch, reform/repeal of select tax breaks to certain industries, frank discussion about our criminal justice system (aka prison industry) . . .

Serious problems require serious people to have serious discussions. Republicans CHOSE to cede responsibility to the Idiot King. Hopefully, Democrats (and moderate Republicans) will seize this opportunity to serve the public instead of serving the whims of their largest donors or 'think tank' nocturnal emissions.

Is it possible to do all of the above, at the same time. I think we can impeach Bush, and focus on these issues at the same time. Whether we will have leadership that has the balls to do it, I cannot say. I hope so - the focus on wedge issues has taken the spotlight off of the REAL issues Americans should be worrying about (the ones you mentioned).
