Just about two years ago, I was faced with building my first computer. I went with a 1Ghz Thunderbird & an Abit KT7-Raid.
Now, two years later, I'm thinking about getting a new board and processor. However, I probably won't be buying anything for a few months, therefore I seriously want to get the most out of what I have (hey, it's cheaper rite?) With the exception of VIA instabilities, and general problems with having all three DIMM slots full (I used to have 3 sticks of 256 crucial, took one out for stability) this board has been pretty good to me, and it with the Tbird chip taking a beating (the things i've done to it....) I'm pretty sold on staying with Athlon.
Over time I've upgraded various things, GeForce2, then 4, more ram (currently 512 Micron) Maxtor 30 gig, and recently a WD 80 gig'er. I also put a Thermaltake Volcano 7 back in May.
Anyone who's had this board for awhile maybe could share some tips and tricks for the board. Recent things I've done to it is apply a fresh batch of thermal paste, which lowered my temps 8 deg F average, took out a couple of useless PCI cards that were giving me headaches, and upgraded to a 500w power supply.
Overclocking has *not* been very successful at all on this system. I don't like how the multiplier settings are used, but I hope there's ways around it, as I'd like to keep this as long as I can.
Thanks for any suggestions, everyone.
