Making phonecalls over the internet

Can anyone recommend the best "making phonecalls over the internet" software?

Does it work well? and are the calls "free"?

Just an Idea....try using Roger Wilco. Its a shareware program and its easy to use. All you need is Microphone. It does not cost anything to use either. Its more like a two way radio than a phone call, but hey it works. I use all the time when my squad and I get together for battle on our favorite game. We can all talk to eachother at the same time. Just do a search for it and you'll find it.

I was looking for something that's pretty user-friendly. I was thinking about getting it as a gift for my Mom, who talks on the phone a LOT.

When I was looking a few months ago, I couldn't find anything good.
All I heard or read about the standard telephone services via the computer turned out bad reports.
I gave up, so I'll be watching this in case something new came up.

I have a friend who used www.dialpad.com. Don't have any personal experience with it. He uses highspeed connection to.

I'm looking for a seamless, simple to use system that my mother can use. They have a cable modem, so the speed is there.
I'd like something where a phone can be plugged into the computer, turn the computer on, and then make the call.
