I want my computer back!
My GF has become a Sims addict and I want to convert my office machine for her to play it on.
Current specs are
Duron 1.6
ECS KT333 board
1gb PC2100 Ram
Maxtor 60 Gig HDD
Matrox G400 Dual Head

Needless to say it needs a new video card, and I am on a budget.
Would a 9600 Pro or a 6200 64-bit be a good upgrade for her to play on?

Thanks.

my mate has a 9600XT and the sims2 runs very nicely at 1280 (his LCD native res) for him. Steer very well clear of ANY 64-bit cards ;)

The reviewers seldom pay attention to the least powerful of VGA's. The 9600 Pro, however, is not among those. It is from a prior generation, of which it was a mid-level device, and once was priced far more steeply than it is today. The 6200 is the puniest of nVidia's current offerings, save that the turbocached 6200 costs a bit more and might not perform quite as poorly as the "plain" 6200. Overall, the 9600 Pro gets the nod in its price range.

I have a 9500 Pro In my rig right now, best video card purchase I have ever made.
But I don't have the extra cash to make an upgrade right now and pass it on to her.

9600XT, $70 for 128mb and $90 for 256mb. Your girlfriend deserves so much more than a 6200.

If it was a 128bit 6200, I'd say go with that. As it stands, get the 9600.

Just a correction, a plain 6200 will own a turbocached 6200, the 64 bit bus is slow but prolly not as slow as it would be required to access system memory.

EDIT
but yea the 9600pro wil be a much beter choice, considering a 9600pro is sorta equivalent to a fx5700, and a 6600 nu is roughly 30% faster at best, but the 6600 nu is more that two times faster than 6200.
lol long comparison but i could never get benchmarks of fx5700 vs 6200 64bit :p

9600 Pro. If you can afford the commitment, drop another $25 for the 9600xt.

I "upgraded" my wife from onboard video to an old 9000 pro and she's lovin it, so you don't really need that much in the way of vga horsepower.

BTW nice to see you have a gamming GF.
A 6600 GT would be a Good bet and would last a while.
