Her songs are indeed catchy, but I cannot stand the way she looks and acts.

The sad thing is that she really does have a lot of talent, but her act overshadows that. There are clips of her singing while playing the piano "pre-gaga" and she's really quite good.

i could totally see young people liking it because they often dont think about the meaning behind music, but for me it just seems devoid of anything that matters

Chicks that sing well are a dime a dozen. If she didn't have the outrageous act going, you wouldn't have heard of her. I'm not a fan, but I appreciate her style. She's more rock-n-roll than the rockers are.

This mostly. I don't listen to much music in general and even her I can do without but I have to acknowledge that she's one of the most talented pop stars I've seen in a while. Most pop songs are just so much recycled garbage but at least she puts out new somewhat innovative stuff herself and some of it actually doesn't sound too bad. She's quite a talented pianist too.
