while i feel the more appropriate course of action would have been to complain to the manager about the woman instead of confronting her, i still laughed quite a bit about the SIR and MAN comments.

ps - keep us updated. you remind me of the devil who sits on my shoulder that i find funny but whose advice i can never bring myself to follow 😀

she would get her ass kicked at any other gym for behaving like that.

I have been watching this crap for a month...her huffing and puffing when someone else is at a spot she wants to be, etc. She competes I know and knows the staff....the manager lady should say something, but no one complains. She hangs around some older pencil neck type guys that have nice cars so they are probably semi-loaded. The whole group though thinks of the gym as theirs as far as I can tell.

In the beginning the guys would try to intimidate me...I were pretty loose stuff and was using weak weights and was chubby when I started. Now I am getting back into heavier weights and getting really cut, esp my arms and those guys usually will leave the area when I come into it. 🙂

I am sure this lady will be pushing her luck in the future as far as trying to invade where I am at.

your gym is very strange. I have been to many over the years and haven't ever seen that kind of behavior. I go to a Gold's in SoCal which you would think would have a lot of that kind of attitude but people are pretty respectful of each other. Now if they would just finish the remodel they've been selling everyone on for 2 years now I'd be happy.

hahahahahah the SIR thing is HILARIOUS. You'd make me drop my weights if i was nearby....

Bleh, hate people like that.

At the local gym I go to, people often think that benches are a place to put their cell phone and water bottle. I kindly relieve them of that idea by placing them on the floor when I need to use something they've mistaken for a locker.

I don't think they're trying to be jerks, though, I just think they're kind of clueless.

I hate people like this, they think they own the place. I wouldn't have been as nice. There is always some arshole like this at gym's!

So. California is pretty laid back as it is.

This was one incident, hardly the whole 'tone' of the gym.

In general though Gold's is becoming another Bally's at least around here (social club).

Well being the manager was right there.....

still you think once she directed me to another area for her own benefit, running to the manager to tell on her would have been better? May as well hand my nuts to her so she could have the full set.

Be carefule when taunting peeps on steroids. They are prone to fits of rage and very strong to boot.

It's too bad that there are asshats like that in every gym. I often ask politley to use equipment if someone is parked on it after their set. I do my stuff and move on. Sharing is expected in all gyms.

What a freakin prima donna if she thinks she can spread her crap out all over the gym. 4 stations? She is clearly in over her head. The ironic thing is, you can do very little right and be on juice and still get huge and cut. So, it's not like her form or workout is gonna ever make even a drop of difference.

Another moron to stay clear of.

BTW, your retort was very good.

Dude, if someone is reserving 4 machines at a time and taking forever to get to them, I'm moving their sh!t. I had this one lady leave her crap on the T-Bar for like 20-30mins. When I said leave, I mean leave. She just went off somewhere to do God knows what and expected no one to touch "her" machine. I just moved her crap and did my sets. Then she came back and couldn't believe I moved her stuff. I just ignored her ass and finished my workout. I'm courteous at the gym, but I'm not going to delay my workouts because someone abandons a machine and expects to come back to it after 20-30mins.

Being as big as I am 6'4" and 240 well placed pounds, I don't make too much of the losers that occaisonally inhabit my steel domain. I see them like you do; the machine sitter (waiting in between sets for minutes at a time firmly ensconced where you want to be), the dominator (working 4 machines at once) and the talker (standing in your way while regaling the latest application of Rogain).

I either step up and grap the iron heaviest beside them or take off my blasing earphones and say "mind if I use your machine while you are resting?"

Or if someone is using a bench near the heavy part of the dumbell rack, incline pressing 45's, I sometimes have to step into his/her mirror view and grab the 130's for a very loud set of shrugs. They somehow don't like that but I've never actually heard an audible complaint.

Once a skinny girl wanted to make a funny with her two little friends and stepped up to my curl bar which had a pair of 45's and some smaller weights (145 total?) and feigned a lift and curl. I just look above their heads slightly, ignore whatever gibberish is coming for their suckhole and then step to the bar and get 4 reps with very good form and then loudly proclaim the next 3 with so-so form. Again, I let the clank of the steel sound my reply and don't even bother with a glance.

Sometimes people go to the gym for the wrong reason. I go because I have several muscle groups that I need to stimulate to grow. I'm not there for thereapy, fellowship or contests. I don't want girls looking, guys looking or anyone else lookin my way.

I like to work out with a partner and have many times in the past, but I haven't seen too many people that understand good form, technique and etiquette so currently, I slave on solo.

I must have had too much cafeen to write this much.

Be a man in the gym....

Edited for spelling...

Seriously...each day practically I witness a guy grabbing the 20-30lb dumbbells and bypassing the bench right in front of those to walk down to the 50-70 lb end and plop down on the bench...going back between each set to grab 5lbs more. They do get p!ssed when you need those weights.

There are also the even worse that not only grab the light weights and walk down, but instead of picking a place between benches they stand right in front of the heavier wieght one.

Gym's are organized a certain way for a reason

The talkers also seriously rattle me...I am really not there for conversation...you get people that want to make you their gossip buddy for an hour each morning...these people get hurt to when you ignore them/blow them off (which you have to do if you want to work out and not bullsh!t) at least it gets them to stop talking to me.

wow. crappy gym you go to.

Im rather short 5'5' and around 165lbs. I work out a few days a week and I am in OK shape.

I have never had the problems you claim. The big guys (and i mean BIG) never try to intimadate me. Heck i work out with a few who have shown me some way's to get more muscle.

sure we have some prima donnas that think they own the gym but they try crap like this they get smacked down. Even the guys that try this get smacked down.

Respect seems to be the key. I go in and do my reps and talk to people on the down turn.

No offense but you don't look like the kind of guy that would cause problems anywhere.

my biggest problems are 1) I get in shape fast....I know these asshats have noticed that. 2) I am using decent weight and I know proper form and technique.

It also really depends 1) what kind of gym you are at and 2) what time of day. I work out at 5am or so...serious people time and my gym is not a social type gym, almost all free weights...the machines are in minority.

Exactly!! Respect is the key!! Clearly this woman he has encountered was very narcisitic and had no respect for others.

As for the chatty part of the gym society, I keep headphones on blasting angst tunes for my personal motivation. It also keeps the chatters at bay. I'm sociable enough but hey, I'm there for a specific purpose.

I'll admit that I'll use the far end of benches with lighter weights, but that's only when every other bench is filled. Just a few days ago between sets I watched a guy who had his crap spread out, and spent a good 20 minutes stretching half-a$$ed. You could tell he was there just to see/be seen, but people like that are fairly easy to pick out. The only people I have respect for at my gym are the ones who go, do their sets, and move on; it doesn't matter if they're 98lbs and can barely pick up the weights because they ARE trying. I couldn't care less about the bruisers who sit around talking for 20 minutes, and lifting huge amounts of weight when they run out of things to say.

nothing happened today other than her rolling her eyes....both her friends were on the other side of the gym (not sure if the incident had anything to do with it). The manager lady was not working today.
