making coffee at home

hey guys i have a few questions. i just bought a coffee maker + beans since im starting to dirnk alot of it. well i wanted to know, if for example i wanted to make 4 cups of coffee, how much grind should i generally use?

Two tablespoons of ground beans for every cup of coffee (6 ounces). For four servings, you need eight tablespoons of ground beans.

You can dilute the final product with hot water if that's too strong for you.

I find it's a good idea to refrigerate the beans after opening the bag. Also, it's best to grind only how much you'll use right then.

I use 8 heaping scoops for 5 real cups (the measurement cups, not the mystery cups marked on the side of the coffee pot) but I like my coffee on the strong side.

..and get your self an Aladdin stainless steel thermos. Make a full pot and then transfer to the thermos. Keeps the coffee fresh and hot. And you don't have to keep the coffee maker on after it's finished brewing. I've been doing this for many years. Works well.

I have a burr grinder, so as the beans grind, they fall down to the container. I just press a button to grind and another to shut it off. The coarseness of the grind depends on how I have it set. Since I use an electric drip, I have it set somewhere in the middle of the range.

You want a medium grind for electric drip pots. Fine for espresso, coarse for a french press.

1 scoop per cup is generally standard. Remember a coffee cup isn't a normal cup (6 oz vs 8 oz AFAIK), plus I don't know what the former measurement is based on.

I don't go off standards, I just go off what tastes good. Usually 1.5 scoops/non-coffee cup here.

use a burr grinder, even grounds. spice/spinning type heats and creates uneven grind, over/under extract.
