In a wild moment of wanting to eat healthier I'm starting to regret purchasing this 20 lb. bag of brown rice that will be with me for eternities to come..but since I'm committed to it I'm equally committed to making this not taste like crap anymore. It always comes out really dry and just doesn't have the nice texture that white rice does. Tips?

mix it half half with white. improves the texturing of the white and still healthy.

Just throw that shit away.

This

Use white rice for Red Beans and Rice, Gumbo, etc. Brown rice tastes like ass, but good rice (white rice) is bland and almost tasteless without the addition of things that make it very bad for you.

I made tandoori chicken with brown rice the other day and it was delicious. I did take a little bit of plain yoghurt, mixed in a pinch of curry powder, then drizzled that on the rice and threw some chooped cilantro on top of that, so that helped give it more flavour, but I like the nuttiness of the rice.

If I did a blind test I will find it hard to taste the difference between quality white and brown rice.

Generally I prepare lundberg short grain brown rice and mahatma long grain brown rice. Both are a bit chewy compared to white rice but I would not say they taste like crap. Perhaps a bit of a nutty flavor but IMO it is not bad. You need to make sure you are cooking it with enough water. Also, it takes a lot longer to cook brown rice than white rice so make sure you are cooking it long enough. Fragrant brown rice varieties or rice medleys with wild rice may appeal to you more than straight brown rice. However, wild rice isn't nearly as cheap as white and brown rice.

Get hungrier before you cook dinner.

A couple shovel fulls of brown riice should satisfy you if you are hungry enough.

Short grain brown rice is the best. Play with the water ratio. I usually use more water for brown than white iirc.

1.5 c. brown rice
2 c. boiling water
sea salt

Put DRY rice in a DRY pot and cook at high heat, stirring frequently until you hear some popping and the rice gives off a nutty aroma, about 5 minutes. Turn the heat to low, toss a few pinches of salt according to your taste into the pot and carefully pour the boiling water into the pot. Stir once and cover immediately. Simmer the rice until all the water is absorbed, about 40 min.

Another thing people do is roast your rice lightly -- like 5 minutes or less -- in a hot cast iron pan before you cook/boil it. You can either dry roast it or use a little bit of olive oil/butter.
