making bootable WinXP disk with updates

I read they're coming out with Vista next month. And, I had an illegal copy of Windows XP and could no longer get updates. So, I ordered a legitimate copy of Windows XP Pro SP2.

I think I read that you can make your own installation disk with the updates included. I would like to do that before they cut off support for WinXP. Does anyone have a link here and does it require a DVD instead of CD...

nliteos.com has good stuff as well - it will automate pretty much everything for you.
 
OK, I just received my disk in the mail. It says Windows XP Pro SP2 version 2002. If this means it's from 2002, then I need to do a whole load of updates like SP3, SP4, all the hotfixes and security updates. I was wondering, if they stop updates after Vista has been out for a couple of years, is there a way I can find a list off all updates since 2002 and save them seperately on a disk^ I'm saying this because I'm not sure I will succeed in slipstreaming everything. I've never done it before.

Also, if I do slipstream all the updates into another CD, can it fit on a CD or should I burn it on a DVD instead^

For XP, SP2 is the latest update; there is no SP3 or SP4.

I don't think MS will be stopping updates anytime soon - not for years and years. As mentioned, I think your worries are unfounded.

Did you read up on the nLite site? It already answers all your questions, including how to download all the to-present-date updates in one nice little package so you can then integrate it into the install.

It fits on CD still.

I thought I read nLite requires .NET I don't have it on my machine right now and frankly, I didn't like .NET when I had it before. Well, I'll go to the nLite site and see.

 
Great thread guys. Lots of good info.

I just created an XP DVD for my company that has drivers for all our hardware, +all the updates.

I love the automated install. Pop the CD in, 20 mins later the PC is patched, all hardware drivers install, on the domain and waiting to be logged in!

Makes scratch loading a PC much faster!
