Making an old mouse smoother

I don't know if it's my perception or what, but I love the shape of my old Intellimouse Explorer 1.0. But, it has its downsides. Of course, the DPI is horrible, so that limits my choice of mousepads. But, I recently did a comparison of some new mice like the Ikari Laser Mouse and Razer Deathadder, and was surprised how smoothly they moved on my Ratpadz XT and GS mousepads. Now, I weighed them and they only weighed slightly less than my mouse.

I don't know what it is, but my mouse feels like it's getting stuck a lot, like sticky zones that these newer mice don't seem to have. Simply replacing my mouse feet with teflon feet doesn't appear to overcome it. I'm wondering if it's just the nature of my my mouse being old and using the standard oval feet shape and these newer mice I tested having a different type of feet placement? I was thinking it would be cool if I could find someone who could mod my mouse to use a different feet placement, but I imagine it might not be that easy.

its probably just the amount of teflon surface area. i find new mice use strips of teflon feet, whereas old ones had little dots. on my g9 the feet cover the entire width on the front and back.

its also possible your mouse pads a bit worn out as well. look for flatter/duller spots.
