Making an adapter so I can use my old Danger Den Maze water block on a AM2/2+/3 motherboard. Only need 10 holes in a 3-5 mm thick plastic to do the trick.

Let's see now, I bought it for Socket-A ca 2002 or so. It's a Danger Den Maze 2.

I wonder how it compares performance-wise to the latest water block.

More modern blocks might be better, but it's still water. Should be fine for most cooling cases.
